Alger, WA — (August 26, 2013) — Veteran World of Outlaws shoe Joey Saldana is a three-time winner at Skagit Speedway and has won at this facility more than any other driver currently competing on the Outlaws circuit.

Saldana, who teamed up this season with car owner Dan Motter, enjoys racing in the Northwest and is looking forward to the first stop on this West Coast swing.  The Outlaws race a doubleheader here Aug. 30 and 31.

“Skagit always puts on a great show,” said Saldana, “and I’m looking forward to racing there.  The track is a nice 3/10-mile oval and the fans get to see some close racing and good competition.

“Racing in the Northwest is also a break from the Midwest heat and humidity,” said Saldana who lives in Brownsburg, Ind.  “The weather is usually cool and comfortable.”

Saldana won at Skagit in 2002, 2008, and 2009. The last three-time winner was Doug Wolfgang who won twice in 1978 and once in 1979.

“Our goal would be to become the first four-time winner at this track.”

Skagit sets up a barnstorming tour for the Outlaws through Washington, Oregon and Calif. with nine races in 10 days.

“There’s little time for rest during this West Coast swing,” said team owner Dan Motter.

“It’s hard on the team members and for the most part you’re racing a different track every night.  If you have a situation where you damage a race car badly then you’re in a real time crunch to build a car and travel to the next event.

“We carry a lot of spare parts and pieces on our transporter for this tour.  We have three cars, five engines and enough parts to build six cars, along with an extra supply of nose and top wings.

“These team members really have a passion for the sport to campaign the Outlaws’ rigorous schedule.”

After Skagit, the teams have one day of travel before seven consecutive events that line up like this:

September 2:  Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash.

Saldana has yet to add this track to his win list

September 3:   Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore.

This year marks only the second time the Outlaws have competed

at this track.

September 4:   Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, Ore.

Saldana won here in 2007

September 5:   Southern Oregon Speedway in Medford, Ore.

This year marks the Outlaws first return to this facility since 2006.

September 6-7: A Gold Cup Race of Champions doubleheader at Silver Dollar

Speedway in Chico, Calif.

Saldana is a three-time winner at this track

September 8:    The West Coast Swing concludes at Antioch Speedway in Antioch,

Calif.

The Motter Team finished second here in April

“We are currently sixth in World of Outlaws point standings, not far out of fifth place,” said Motter.  “This is a good opportunity to earn points and move up the ladder.”
