Kaeding Second at the Johnny Key

From Peterson Media

With the World of Outlaws heading west, Tim Kaeding and his Roth Motorsports team decided to skip out on Canada, and compete in the Johnny Key Classic at the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA, wherpetersen-media-tk-stock-photoe he scored a second place finish.

With 34 cars on hand looking for one of 18 positions open in the feature event, the San Jose, CA driver took care of business early, as he timed his Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/3H Cattle entry in fourth fastest, putting him in the second row of his “B” Main.

Jumping into the second spot, Kaeding chased after Evan Suggs for the top spot, but came up short as he finished second, but was safely in the 50-lap $10K to win feature event.

Lining up in the fifth row of the feature event, TK was able to move forward, that it wasn’t as quickly as he would have liked as he and Tommy Tarlton duked it out lap after lap, as they were both on the move.

Running in the sixth spot, TK was able to get around Brad Furr, and found himself up in the fifth spot, when the yellow waived on the 20th circuit.

On the rear bumper of his brother, Bud, Kaeding was able to have a great run for the next four laps, as he found himself in third on lap 24, when the red waived, and it was opened for the mandatory stop.

Making a few adjustments to his machine, Kaeding was equally as good when the second segment got underway, as he and Tarlton both began pressuring race leader, DJ Netto.

On the 35th lap, Kaeding was able to get around Netto and took over the second spot as he chased down Tommy Tarlton, but Rico Abreu had other ideas, as he took the second spot from TK, dropping him back to third.

The next 14 laps saw Kaeding run in the second spot as the top three broke away, and as the white flag flew, leader, Tommy Tarlton, had issues in turns three and four, and Kaeding was able to sneak under and take the second spot at the line.

“I have to thank Dennis and Teresa Roth for letting me get back out here and have some fun so close to home,” Kaedng said. “It’s been a while since I’ve ran a 360, and this was really a tough show. We had a strong car, we just came up a little short.”

Tim and his Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, 3H Cattle,  Mobil1, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2013.
