TULSA, Okla. (September 12, 2013) The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real’s inaugural trip to the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track in 2012 supplied the four-tenths mile oval with 42 drivers and Jason Johnson charging from sixth to claim the night’s $4,000 Port-a-Cool U.S. Dirt Track Championship winner’s check.
Returning on Saturday, September 21, the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real will again co-sanction the night’s events with the Smiley’s Racing Products Lone Star Region. One year ago, it was Travis Rilat who represented by Lone Star Region as the highest finishing driver with a fourth place appearance for the Forney, Texas native.
Entering the Texas showdown, Jason Johnson has been able to expand his advantage over Johnny Herrera to 37 markers. Posting seven wins so far in 2013, Johnson’s average finish for the 2013 season to this point averages to 5.942 out of 36 races run.
Herrera, who suffered engine problems in his last outing at the Jackson Nationals, has an average finish that is very close to Jason Johnson’s as Herrera’s 36 race average comes to 6.090. Part of what keeps Herrera in the championship hunt to this point is that Herrera has not posted a DNF in national competition in 2013, where Johnson has a pair of DNF’s to his record.
Jeff Swindell continues to ride third in driver standings. After a dominating performance to open the Jackson Nationals, lady luck didn’t treat the Tennessee driver well as contact between the No. 94 and Johnson’s No. 41 entering the third turn at the half-mile resulted in Swindell flipping into the wall, his fourth DNF of the season.
The crash on the part of Swindell has allowed Brad Loyet to begin closing the gap. Now only 45 points removed from the podium, the 2012 Brodix Rookie of the Year with the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real has posted two wins on the season to go along with 15 top fives’ and 27 top tens’. Tony Bruce, Jr. again rounds out the top five, having traded the spot six times in 2013 with Logan Forler who holds sixth. Forler’s 27 top ten finishes ties him with Herrera on the season, only three behind points leader Jason Johnson.
Seth Bergman, Dustin Morgan, Cole Wood, and Brandon Hahn make up the top ten in driver standings.
