ANDERSON, Ind. (September 19, 2013) – The USSA Sprint Car Challenge Series built by the UAW returns to Anderson Speedway on Saturday, September 21. Also in action at the high-banked quarter-mile will be WMDH ThunderCars, IOFS Compact Figure 8’s and IOFS Super Karts.
The USSA Sprint Car Challenge Series will compete for the second occasion this season at Anderson. The initial race took place on April 14 in the Glen Niebel Classic when Aaron Pierce kept his perfect record alive winning his third consecutive series feature.
Pierce recorded his third Glen Niebel Classic victory for non-winged sprint cars at Anderson Speedway on Sunday, April 14. Pierce inherited the lead on lap 70 when leader Bobby East tangled with the slower car of Travis Welpott on the front street with the two cars coming to rest in turn one.
Pierce went on to win by three-seconds over Joe Swanson with Tony Hunt getting inside of Brian Gingras on the final lap to finish third. Jim Sheets scored fifth place honors, the final competitor to complete all 100 circuits. Brandon Whited placed sixth with Garrett Green, Kevin Studley, Chris Neuenschwander and Scott Orr filling out the top 10.
In the WMDH ThunderCars, Curtis Chapman has constructed a 63 point lead over Trent Gossar. Entering this weekend, Chapman victory total has reached six while Gossar has collected nine top-five finishes. Third in the standings is Rob Allman with Tom Gossar and Austin Russell completing the top five.
The IOFS Compact Figure 8’s will be featured in a 15-lap main event. Previous winners this year include Kevin Henson and Nick Warner. In the Anderson Speedway Front Wheel Drive Figure 8 standings, Henson holds a 47 point advantage over Elliott McKinney. The remainder of the top five includes Jamie Valentine, Mark Allman and Brian McKinney.
David Reynolds will be aiming for a third consecutive IOFS Super Karts when they do battle on Saturday Night. In the most recent event, Reynolds was chased by Dustin Kares and Ryan Cherry at the checkered flag.
On Saturday, September 21, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with the racing beginning at 8. Admission is $12 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children five and under get in free.
The Harvest Market Kids Bicycle Races will begin at 7:15. Kids 12 and under with a bike and helmet can participate in the bicycle races.
