MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 24, 2013) – Brent Marks rebounded from an early engine issue on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway to post another top 10.
“We were having motor problems from the get-go,” he said. “In practice it was breaking up a bit. We thought it was an electrical issue so we changed the plug wires out and the problem got worse in the heat race. It was really down on power and I was trying to ride it out and stay in the top five. At the end of the race it started really laying down.”
After starting fourth in his heat race, Marks dropped to sixth place in the closing laps to miss a lock-in spot to the feature by only one position. That relegated him to the B Main, which he started second after a quick engine swap.
“I’m not really sure what happened yet,” he said. “After the heat race we swapped motors out and got out just in time to run the consolation.”
Marks ended in the runner-up position to transfer to the 25-lap feature, which he started 22nd.
“It turned really good for the feature,” he said. “It was a really good race for us. We had a really fast car. I needed a couple of yellows to bunch everybody up.”
Marks was aggressive and pulled more than a dozen slide jobs as he charged to a ninth-place result in a race that didn’t have a caution.
“We just hit the setup and the car was really fast,” he said. “There was a cushion up top and it got really wide. There was a bottom lane and a top lane. I was trying to keep my speed up as much as I could. I passed 13 cars and I bet I pulled 16 sliders. It worked out really well for me. The track was in good enough shape I was able to do that. I had a blast. It was a lot of fun.
Saturday’s race at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., was cancelled because of the weather.
“I wanted to race Lincoln on Saturday, but at the same time I didn’t mind that it was rained out,” he said. “I needed a break.”
Marks is scheduled to compete in a tripleheader this weekend, beginning on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway. On Saturday he is slated to compete at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa., and on Sunday at Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Md., for the rescheduled Brawl in the Fall.
