Sanders Wins in Watsonville

PETERSEN MEDIA

After being involved in an early tangle while running up front, Just Sanders marched from the back to win the Ocean Sprints Presented by Taco Bravo feature event on Friday night at the Ocean Speedway.

“What a race,” Sanders said. “We were really good all night, and it showed, as we were able to come from the back and pick up the win.”

Piloting his family owned No. 17 machine, Sanders timed in sixth fastest against the 25 cars that were on hand for the second-to-last series event.

Lining up in the second row of his heat, Sanders finished in the second spot to transfer into the 30-lap feature event where he found himself in the second row.

When the green flag dropped, the Prunedale, CA driver was running inside the top three, when he got a piece of Carson Macedo who had bicycled, and came to a stop, putting him at the tail end of the field.

In the back, Sanders was masterful as he maneuvered around the Ocean Speedway, as he worked his way up to the top-five with just 10-to go.

Getting up into third, Sanders chased after Jonathan Allard and Bud Kaeding, who were battling for the lead, and when the two made contact, Sanders was there to benefit as he took command of the race with six-laps to go.

Sanders was strong over the final six laps, as he went on to pick up a popular win at his home track.

Saturday night at the Marysville Raceway Park, Sanders was aboard the Warrington No. 18 and had an early night as contact with the wall in the feature event knocked him out of competition.

“It was great to win on Friday night, but I wish we could of have a little better night on Saturday,” he said. “I have to thank all of the people who make this possible for me to do on a weekly basis.”

ON TAP: Justin will be in his own No.17 machine at the Ocean Speedway on Friday night in the Ocean Sprints Presented by Taco Bravo season finale.
