Taking of the King of the West Series at the Kings Speedway on Saturday night, Jonathan Allard charged from his seventh starting spot to score a fourth place finish during the Cotton Classic.
“We had a tough go at the start of the feature, but once we got settled down, we got going pretty good, and made our way up to fourth,” he said.
Timing his Williams Motorsports entry in second fastest, Allard scored a third place finish in his heat, putting him in the night’s Dash.
Starting the Dash in the eighth spot, Allard gained one position for the feature as he finished in the seventh spot.
On a tacky, but racy, track, Allard slowly worked his way forward, as he found himself up inside the top five, and in fourth, by the time the first caution waived on the 10th lap.
Chasing after Jason Meyers, Allard held the fourth spot down as the field got into traffic with just 10 laps to go.
With race leader, Kyle Hirst, getting sideways and slipping to third on the 20th lap, Allard closed in on him, and gave it all he had to earn the final spot on the podium.
Looking both high and low on Hirst, Allard was unable to make the pass, and settled for fourth.
“We had a really good car, but we couldn’t seem to get up to the first three guys, after we got to fourth,” he said. “It was a tough field, and we will take our fourth and see what we can do at the Trophy Cup.”
