Holly, MI — (November 16, 2013) — When Brian Tyler makes his TRUFUEL Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Series (MSRXSS) debut at Southern National Motorsports Park on November 23, it will be a reunion of sorts.
Tyler cut his teeth running winged asphalt sprint cars in his native Michigan early in his career. His success in the division got him noticed quickly. Tyler used his early success to move up the ladder to bigger and better things.
To date, Tyler is a two-time Little 500 winner as well as the 1996 & 1997 USAC National Sprint Car champion. Tyler has several IndyCar, ARCA, and NASCAR Nationwide Series starts.
Tyler moved to Mount Pleasant, NC to concentrate on his racing efforts several years ago. When MSRXSS founder, Jim Hanks, announced that the series would be competing at the Kenly, NC speedway as part of the annual Mason Dixon Meltdown, it was only fitting that Tyler would have interest in competing. He lives less than 150 miles from Southern National Motorsports Park.
“It’s been 15-18 years since I’ve really done any winged asphalt racing” explained Tyler. “I ran in South Africa this past winter but that was a little bit different even though it was winged asphalt racing. They run on slot bull rings and you gotta drive it more like a dirt car. I’m just looking forward to doing some high-speed winged asphalt racing”.
Tyler’s return to the sport will be aboard the famed orange number 81 Dynamite Chassis owned by Indianapolis native Mike Blake. Blake captured the 2010 MSRXSS championship with driver Troy DeCaire in the same car Tyler will be competing in. “I’ve known Mike for a long time” explains Tyler. “We’ve never been able to put anything together in the past because either I had a ride when he needed a driver, or he had a driver when I needed a ride” laughed Tyler. ”We got together and put something together for this race. I really wanted to run this event”.
Fun is what will be key to Tyler’s return to the division as he looks forward to hanging out with old friends for the weekend. “Jim (Hanks) is a good friend of mine who has been a big supporter of my career. I’ll be there all weekend and if he needs me to do some PR work before the event, I’m all for it”.
Tyler had recently been competing in the USAC Silver Crown Series until his team let him go with two races left. The team Tyler was competing for opted for youth over experience and a known commodity. Tyler currently finds himself without a ride other than the Little 500 for 2014 and it isn’t out of the realm of possibilities to see Tyler competing full-time with MSRXSS in 2014. “We’ll see how the weekend goes. If we can find some sponsorship, I wouldn’t be against running some more winged stuff next season. Most of the tracks the series competes at are 12-17 hours from my home here in North Carolina. Finding sponsorship would help a lot. If we can find sponsorship we might be able to put something together.” concluded Tyler.
For now Tyler is eager to see where his MSRXSS debut leads to, as well as getting reacquainted with some old friends, while having fun all at the same time.
