The Sargent name has been synonymous with Sprint Car racing for decades, and third generation driver, Matt Sargent, is eager to get back behind the wheel of a 360ci or 410ci machine in 2014.
“After taking 2013 off completely and racing a very limited schedule in 2012, I am ready to get racing again, and I am hopeful that there is a team that is looking for a driver to race wherever, whenever,” Sargent said.
In 2008, Sargent competed at the Ocean Speedway in the Taco Bravo Sprints division and racked up numerous top-five and top-10 finishes en route to winning a highly competitive Rookie of the Year award in a very tough division.
That same year, Sargent raced his way into the Trophy Cup feature event, a task that is very tough to do for a young driver.
Over the next few years, Sargent continued to race, and improve as he accumulated more seat time, but after the 2011 season he decided to take a break and race a more limited schedule.
In 2012, Sargent was in action a few times aboard a modified, as well as a 360ci sprint car. In fact, during that season, Sargent put together a strong run at the Calistoga Speedway with the Civil War Series, until a cut tire ended his night.
“I’m not naïve and think there are tons of opportunites out there, especially free ones,” Sargent said. “I have been talking with a few of my sponsors, and I think I will be able to bring some sponsorship with me to a team to get going, but that isn’t 100% set it stone at this time.”
