LUBBOCK, Texas (Feb. 10, 2014) – Kolt Walker admits he is a neat freak.
“OCD? Very,” he said. “If my rug gets two inches out of place I’m ticked. I’m a very neat freak. Everything has to be organized. Everything has to be clean. Everything has its place.”
That’s a good thing for the Graves Motorsports driver, who is about to assemble the team’s backup car. It just got picked up from being powder coated and Walker said a meticulous step is next.
“After you get it back from the powder coating, you’ve got three or four hours of prepping it,” he said. “You’ve got to clean all the holes before putting any bolts into it. I’ll clean out the nerf bar holes where the powder coating went in it.”
The long task of getting things cleaned up before assembling is a key way to make sure that everything is done the right way, Walker said. Once cleaned, the race car will be pieced together starting this week.
“Everything should be there for the most part,” he said. “This week will be a good, solid week as far as putting that car together and continuing to organize.”
The team is scheduled to open the season March 21-22 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. The weekend is also co-sanctioned by the ASCS Lone Star Region.
