Washam Selected For Rising Star Test and VMB Scholarship Selection

PETERSEN MEDIA

Though his current plans are to compete in a winged sprint car in 2014, Nathan Washam is excited to announce that he has been selected to participate in the 2014 Rising Star Test and VMB Scholarship Selection.

On Monday, March 3rd, the young Washam will be in action at the Buttonwillow Raceway Park, where he hopes he can ‘wow’ officials with World Speed Motorsports.

Aside from the driving test, Washam will also go through the an interview process to judge his passion, and demeanor for racing off of the track, as he vies for the VMB Scholarship.

“For over 20 years we’ve been developing young drivers, and graduating them into the upper levels of racing,” stated WSM President Telo Stewart. “This is the first year in our history that we will be able to provide a full season to a deserving racer. We are looking forward to working with VMB and the selected driver in 2014.”

Each finalist will be scored on driving ability, technical feedback, and communication with the WSM/VMB. Staff from World Speed Inc will discuss the merits of each driver, and provide a complete a complete report on all four drivers to VMB Driver Development. VMB will then select the 2014 Rising Star Award overall winner. The testing will be held at Buttonwillow Raceway Park on March 3rd. The FCC presented by Goodyear season opener is March 15th-16th at Sonoma Raceway in California.

Washam has been selected as one of four finalists who are all vying for the grand prize of essentially a $60,000 sponsorship to compete in all of the Formula Car Challenge Presented by Goodyear events.

The $60,000 sponsorship essentially breaks down as Formula SPEED 2.0  car for the entire season, one set of Goodyear race tires per weekend, a professional dedicated mechanic, a shared engineer for data and video analysis, car and crew transportation, car fitting, weekend hospitality, and race entries.

“It is a really cool opportunity to even be selected for this test session,” Washam said. “The program is tailored towards drivers who wish to build a career in open wheel racing, and that is exactly what I want to do.”

A unique fact about Washam and this program is that he comes from a dirt background. One of the areas that made him stand out against the 36 other applicants was the fact that he has raced both a winged and non-winged sprint car in his young career.
