– LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (April 15, 2014) – This Saturday can’t come soon enough for Derek Hagar, who is aiming to erase the sour taste from last weekend.
Hagar entered last Saturday’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at I-30 Speedway with three wins and four top fives in his first four races. However, he was caught up in a crash on the opening lap of his heat race.
“We had a pretty good night going,” he said. “We were quick in hot laps. I ended up drawing pretty bad for the heat race and had to start on the outside of the last row. On the first start I pretty much split the people in front of me.”
However, as Hagar was about to cross the start/finish line in fourth place a car came to a stop in turns three and four, which forced a caution and made it a complete restart. This time Hagar lined up on the outside of the third row.
“I did the same thing I did the restart before and a guy that started on the outside of the front row got on the gas pretty hard and spun out,” he said. “He came down and hit me on the right rear tire. It made us flip and pretty much ruined our whole night.”
Hagar was unable to restart the race and was relegated to a B Main, which he started on the outside of the fourth row.
“We were in the last heat race and in the first B Main,” he said. “By the time we got the new wings on and got the oil put back in the motor, it was pretty much time to go out there for the B Main. We didn’t get to do anything to the car to see if the race track had changed. I had to go with what we had. We could have been a little tighter. We were way too free.”
Hagar finished eighth in the consolation race and missed a transfer to the main event.
“It’s pretty much a scrap-it weekend,” he said. “There wasn’t too much we could take out of it. Just shake it off and go out there this weekend.”
Hagar is set to race this Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark.
