– Kerry Madsen often refers to Eldora Speedway as being the track that got him hooked on racing in the USA, and over the last few years the Aussie has been very good there, and that trend continued this past weekend.
Setting quick times on both Friday and Saturday night, Madsen flexed his muscles in both of his heat races as he charged from fourth to second on Friday, and fourth to the win on Saturday night aboard his Keneric Racing/American Racing No. 29 machine.
Lining up eight in the Friday night Dash, Madsen continued to move forward as he gained a row for the feature by way of his fifth place finish.
Lining up in the third row for the 30-lap feature event, Madsen got off to a great start as he ran in the top five, battling with Paul McMahan.
Falling back to sixth at the halfway point, Madsen flirted with disaster as he went to slide fifth running David Gravel, but as he made his move, Gravel’s machine lost power, and Madsen got on the binders, spinning his machine out, but keeping it under fire, and keeping his position.
The final laps saw Madsen seemingly get better as the track continued to slick off, and he crossed the stripe in the fourth spot.
Lining up fourth in the Saturday night feature, Madsen ran in the fourth spot in the early stages aboard his EarthEX/GWM backed entry, but on the 12th lap he cut down a right-rear tire and was forced to the work area.
The last 18 laps of the feature event saw ‘The Mad Man” run the wall on the extremely slicked off race track, and charge his way back up to an eighth place finish when the dust settled.
“It was pretty cool to set quick time both night’s at Eldora,” Madsen said. “We had a ton of speed both night’s, but we had some bad luck with the flat tire on Saturday. My guys are working hard, and I can’t thank them enough.”
2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-28, Wins-5, Top-5’s- 12, Top 10’s-21
