– Using momentum from his third place finish at the Dave Bradway Memorial a week ago, Willie Croft found himself in victory lane on Saturday night at the Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, CA with the King of the West Series.

Timing in ninth fastest on the extremely slick surface, Croft went on to pick up his heat race win, and put his Holey Smokes BBQ/Christian Stover Foundation/ButlerBuilt backed entry in the evening’s Dash.

Finding himself with the coveted one-pill, Croft took advantage of his starting position, and won the six-lap shootout going away, putting him on the pole of the 30-lap feature event.

The start saw Croft fall back to the fourth spot, as he raced with Brent Kaeding, and Kyle Hirst, and with the green flying for 23 straight laps, traffic was a huge factor.

Working his way back into the second spot, Croft set his sights on leader, Shane Golobic who had a monster lead on the field.

Running flawless laps, Croft was able to chase down the leader, and use the outside lane to grab the lead on the 21st lap.

The first yellow flew on the 23rd lap, and choosing the outside on the double-file restart, Croft was able to use the momentum to keep the lead, after Golobic beat him to turn one.

Out front, Croft was able to distance himself from the field, and as the white flag was about to waive, the red flag flew, bunching the field back up with three laps to go.

Choosing the bottom on the double file restart, Croft made contact with Golobic as they got back on the throttle, resulting in Golobic getting upside down, and the field lining up in single file formation.

Croft had a brief challenge from Brent Kaeding on the restart, but was able to fend it off, and cruse to his first victory of the season.

“We had a really good car in the feature,” Croft said. “We fell back to third or fourth, but we were able to get into second, and I couldn’t even see Shane Golobic who was checked out. We were able to reel him in and pass him in traffic, which was good. There was a restart with a couple to go, and I got into Golobic, and I feel terrible. It wasn’t intentional. I have to thank my guys for their hard work, and I’m looking forward to Tulare.”
