– Though the season is still young on a weekly basis at the Placerville Speedway, Kyler Shaw continues to improve and get faster, though at times it doesn’t show on the result sheet.
“In a few races that we have ran we have done some good things, and showed pretty good speed,” Shaw said. “With limited time in a sprint car, I’m confident in the direction we are headed, and with a little better luck, I think we are right there fighting for Top-5’s and Top-10’s.
Two weeks ago at the Placerville Speedway, Shaw got off to a rough start as he timed his Shaw Structures Unlimited/ PM$ Investments/Stan Yockey Motorsports 16th fastest missing the heat race inversion, but the Fresno, CA driver was able to work his way into the feature event.
Lining up in the eight row of the feature event, Shaw continued to move forward, and get comfortable on the tough track, as he slowly worked his way up to a 12th place finish.
“Placerville is a tough, but fun track, and moving forward and gaining positions is a positive,” he said. “We went forward in both our heat and feature.”
Last week, Shaw showed serious speed on the high-banked facility as he laid down the third fastest time in time trials before running second in his heat.
Eligible for the redraw, Shaw pulled the eight pill, and ran inside the Top-10 for much of the race, until the youngster got up over the cushion in turns three and four, and slipped back to the 11th spot, where he finished.
“To time in that good was a cool feeling,” he added. “In the feature we held our own, but the driver made a little mistake late, and we ended up 11th.”
This last Saturday night on a very slick a tough track due to persistent high winds, Shaw timed in 15th fastest, and ran third in the night’s B Main event.
Lining up 18th in the feature that saw almost no passing, Shaw hit his marks for 25-laps on the bottom of the speedway and ran 14th.
“We are definitely getting better and gaining on it,” Shaw said. “We are making the feature events and finishing, and at this point those are our goals. We will continue to run Placerville weekly, and hopefully we can change our goals from just making features to Top-10’s and even Top-5’s.”
Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4st Four Media, Borrelo Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.
2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-4, Wins-0, Top 5’s-, Top 10’s-0.
