The seventh event of the 2014 season for the Big Game Treestands #7 team got underway on Saturday as Craig Dollansky prepared for another week of Knoxville Championship Cup Series racing at ‘The Sprint Car Capital of the World’.
With a strong field of 410 sprint cars on hand, 36 drivers signed into the pit area with Dollansky turning the 9th fastest lap in qualifying at 15.696 seconds. Starting fourth in heat one alongside son Garrett, ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ powered up to the second position in the 8-lap event just behind Jason Johnson.
After the first two attempts of the 20-lap A-Main resulted in a yellow and red, the ensuing start went ‘clean and green’ as Dollansky and much of the field worked the highside before running seventh by another caution on lap 9. When action resumed Dollansky came after Bronson Maeschen down the backstretch throwing a slider in turn three but not claiming the sixth position until after the halfway point on lap 13. With just seven circuits remaining, the field utilized the cushion around the historic ½-mile and the Aggressive Hydraulics Maxim crossed the checkered flag in 6th.
“We were off the pace all night trying some things in an effort to figure out what will work and make our program stronger,” commented Dollansky. “We know now that what we tried did not work very well. As much of a struggle that it was I was just trying to get to the checkered flag in one piece but we will regroup and get ready for this coming weekend.”
Plans for this coming weekend will see the Big Game Treestands #7 team at Knoxville Raceway once again on Saturday followed by Huset’s Speedway on Sunday.
