Jonathan Allard and his Tri-C Motorsports team seem to be gelling, as they won at the Silver Dollar Speedway for the second week in a row on Friday night before a late flat tire knocked them out of the Saturday night King of the West race in Tulare, CA.
“It was actually a pretty good weekend for us,” Allard said. “Though we had the DNF on Saturday that was out of our control, and that is the best we have done at a KWS show, and we will look to build on that.”
Friday night in Chico, CA, Allard timed the Tri-C Manufacturing/K&N/ButlerBuilt entry in eighth fastest before he went on to win his heat race and line up in the second row for the feature event.
Getting into the third spot on the start of the race, Allard chased after race leader, Mason Moore, and second running Geoff Ensign, as they raced in a tight pack.
On the 15th lap, Allard went to the high, scary side in turns three and four, to take second from Ensign, and on the 17th lap he did the same to Moore to take the lead.
With Ensign on his tail, Allard remained stout out front, and with Ensign pulling into the infield with three-laps remaining, Allard was never seriously challenged in the closing laps, and cruised to his second win in as many weeks.
Saturday night, Allard continued to show speed as he set the standard in time trials at the Tulare Thunderbowl with the King of the West Series.
Powering his way to a heat race win from his second row starting position, Allard looked to keep his great night going, as his fourth place finish in the Dash from his eighth starting spot put him in the second row for the 30-lap finale.
Working into the second spot in the feature event, Allard chased after Willie Croft on the track that had taken rubber, but hung right on Croft’s rear bumper, until the caution flew with 10-to-go.
Still utilizing double file restarts, Allard lost several spots as he restarted out of the rubber, and fell to fifth.
Trying to get back to the front, Allard came to a stop with just two-laps to go with a tire that simply could no longer hold air, and his night was over with a 16th place finish.
“Both nights we were really strong, and that’s a good feeling with some of the struggles we have had so far,” he said. “It was awesome to get another win at the Silver Dollar Speedway for Clyde and Marion Lamar, and in Tulare, I’m not sure why exactly we went to double-file restarts on a rubber down track, but we weren’t the only ones who had to deal with it, but we lost some spots, and then lost a tire, but we had a great car.”
Allard would like to thank Tri-C Manufacturing, K&N, ButlerBuilt, Platinum Powder Coating, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Red Line Oil, KSE Racing Products, Weld Wheels, NGK Spark Plugs, FK Rod Ends, Hunt Magnetos, Longacre Products, Ti64, A.R.T. Speed Equipment and Hoosier Tire for their support.
2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-16, Wins-2, Top 5’s-4, Top 10’s-7.
ON TAP: Allard and his team will be in action on Friday night back at the Silver Dollar Speedway before heading to the Thunderbowl in Tulare, CA on Saturday.
