ROCHESTER, NY, (June 17, 2014)- Even though the 2014 Patriot Sprint Tour season is eight races and nearly two months in, for a group of drivers, their point race gets going this weekend with a pair of critical events in the PST Canada Series.
The third season of the Patriot Sprint Tour’s Canada Series embarks with stops on opposite ends of Lake Ontario. On Friday Night, the series makes its annual late-June trip to Ohsweken. On Saturday, it will be the first of three stops at Brockville Ontairo Speedway this summer for the PST.
Ohsweken and Brockille rank in second and third on the all-time list for events held over the 12 years of competition. Both hosted their first series race in 2004 and this year are the majority of the PST Canada Series, which will once again crown the champion with $5,000.
Ohsweken has already run four races this season in weekly competition with track promoter Glenn Styres scoring a pair of wins and taking command of the current point lead. Chris Steele and Jessica Zemken have also scored wins and should factor in along with top runners including Mikey Kruchka, Mitch Brown, Jim Huppunen and Kyle Patrick.
In this race two years ago, current PST America point leader Jared Zimbardi scored a popular win. Zimbardi has run a host of weekly Corr/Pak events at Ohsweken over the years but has yet to grace the “Big O” in 2014.
After a full night at Ohsweken, the tour travels up the 401 to the “BOS” for what is sure to be a challenge on the “Beast of the East”.
Brockville has proved to be a key venue in determining the PST Canada champion, with each of the prior champs going to victory lane at the ¼ mile in that year. PST Canada title hopefuls, including Lee Ladouceur, Chris Jones, Alain Bergeron, Mitch Brown and Derek Jonathan are among those primed to use Saturday as a springboard to the crown.
Brockville is known for having a healthy contingent of local shoes, including Rick and April Wilson, Tyler Rand, Kyle Fraser, Devin Caron always eager to be part of the festivities. Also look out for a handful of New Yorkers to travel north to take on the high-banked oval this Saturday.
Racing action Friday at Ohsweken now kicks off at 7:30 while heat races begin at 7:00 P.M. at Brockville. For more information, visit www.PatriotSprintTour.com.
