A red-hot Kerry Madsen put together a dominating performance on Saturday night as he charged from his seventh starting spot to win the 31st Annual Kings Royal at the Eldora Speedway.

“This race was pretty much got me hooked on racing in America years ago, and it’s fantastic to finally break through and win it,” a jubilant Madsen said. “I can’t thank Tyler, Chris, and Brandon enough for the great car they gave me, as well as the Gavranich Family and everyone at American Racing for their continued support.”

Saturday night’s Kings Royal got started off on the right foot for Madsen, as he was fastest in qualifications, putting him in the second row of his heat race. By way of his second place finish, Madsen lined up for the feature event in the fourth row.

When the 40-lap  contest got underway, Madsen took a liking to the very stop of the track, as he wasted no time using a heavy right foot, and momentum, to work his way into the third spot, chasing after Donny Schatz, and David Gravel.

When the yellow flew on the 11th lap, Madsen took advantage of the restart as he got past Donny Schatz for second, and then one lap later was able to get by Gravel and began pulling away from the field.

Out front, Madsen was stellar through lapped traffic, and was in command until the caution flew on the 38th lap setting up a green-white-checkered finished. Madsen was flawless on his restart as he went on to score his first Kings Royal win.

“It was a little nerve racking seeing that last caution, but I couldn’t let it rattle me with such good competition behind me,” he added. “I was counting laps and focusing on hitting my marks, and it worked out.”

Saturday night’s triumph marked Madsen’s fourth World of Outlaw win of the season, and was his seventh straight top-three finish.

Friday night during the Knight Before the Kings Royal, Madsen timed his entry in third fastest.

By way of his third place finish in heat race action, and third place finish in the dash, Madsen would line up third in the feature event.

Running a very strong race, Madsen battled inside the top-five much of the race as he battled with the likes of Shane Stewart, David Gravel, Jac Haudenschild and Daryn Pittman.

Running in the fourth spot in the closing laps, Madsen used a very aggressive slide job to move in front of Pittman for the third spot, and tried making a last lap pass on Tim Shaffer for the second spot, but came up short and took the third spot.

“It was a hard fought race on Friday night,” he said. “We had a really tight battle late in the feature, and fortunately I had a really good car, and was able to land on the podium.”

Wednesday night saw the World of Outlaws take to the Limaland Motorsports Park for the Brad Doty Classic. After timing in fourth fastest, Madsen would race to a fourth place finish in heat race action.

Charging from fifth to third in the dash, Madsen would grid the field in the second row for the 40-lap shootout.

Falling back to fourth in the early goings of the race, Madsen stormed into third following a lap-two restart, as he chased after Paul McMahan and Sammy Swindell.

With cautions sprinkled through the race, Madsen hung with the lead duo for much of the race, and was able to work into the second spot, where he would finish, during the waning laps.

“Overall it was a great weekend for this team,” Madsen said. “We were fast every night, and to cap it all off with the Kings Royal win is just special.”
