Andy Gregg’s first trip to the Knoxville Raceway culminated in the Placerville, CA driver earning 2014 Rookie of the Knoxville Nationals honors by way of his C Main efforts during the Saturday night finale.

“It was such a fun trip, and I feel like we get a little better each time we hit the track,” Gregg said. “I am hoping to get back to Knoxville in 2015, and have already started my efforts in seeking funding for the trip.”

With his Wednesday preliminary night delayed until Friday night due to a pesky weather system, Gregg went out late in time trials and found speed others in his group could not find as he timed his Miller Fortune/Poor’s Equipment Repair/K&N backed entry in 10th fastest with 53 cars checked into the pit area.

Lining up in the fourth row of his heat race due to the eight-car invert, Gregg would finish in the seventh spot, and head to the night’s B Main event.

Slipping back to a 10th place finish during the Friday night B Main event, Gregg’s point total put him 47th overall and locked into the Saturday night C main event.

“It is such a tough place to figure out, and you have to stay so smooth to keep your speed and not lose spots, and that hurt us a little bit.” He added.

Lining up in the fourth row for the Saturday night C main event, things got wild on the start as a huge wreck broke out, and Gregg was caught up in the mess with heavy damage to his entry.

Opting to go back to the work area, Gregg’s team was joined by numerous members of other teams as they thrashed on his machine to get him back on the speedway.

“It was such an awesome feeling to see so many people from different teams come over and lend a hand,” Gregg said. “We get to meet some of these teams when they are out west, and to have them come over really meant a lot , and if it wasn’t for them, our night would have been over.”

Repairing as much as they could, Gregg restarted the race aboard a very banged up machine, and was able to keep his car on the lead lap until he pulled off the track, and was credited with a 15th place finish, and his efforts were rewarded with Knoxville Nationals Rookie of the Year honors.

“It was pretty cool to get Rookie of the Year honors at such a big event,” Gregg said. “I can’t thank everyone enough who supported this trip, and who helped out. I hope I can return next year, and will do everything I can to make that happen.”

Andy would like to thank Miller Fortune, Poor’s Equipment Repair, K&N, FK Rod Ends, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, FK Shocks, Wilwood, Capitol Ace Hardware, 95.7 The Wolf, CTL Forrest Management, Nail Roofing, Meyers and Sons Drywall, Ervin Sales Group, Hansen Machine, K&T Fab, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Amerikote, and Hinchman for their support in 2014.

ON TAP: Gregg will now make the trip back to the West Coast where he hopes to be in action on Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway and Saturday night at the Placerville Speedway.
