Ohsweken, Ontario – August 26, 2014 – Ohsweken Speedway’s 19th season of racing continues this Friday, August 29, when Metal Works presents the penultimate round of weekly Friday night racing in 2014 for the Corr/Pak Merchandising 360 Sprint Cars, Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars, Affordable Towing & Recovery Thunder Stocks, HRW Automotive Mini Stocks, and Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers.
CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING 360 SPRINT CARS
Glenn Styres is looking for his first track championship since weekly Sprint Car racing began at Ohsweken in 2008, but has to keep Mitch Brown and Jim Huppunen behind him in the 360 Sprint Car standings for 2 more weeks. Styres has a 40 point lead over Brown, while defending champ Jim Huppunen is 15 points further back. Shane Ross, Todd Hoddick, Keith Dempster, Dave Dykstra, Jamie Turner, Jeremy Hughes, and Rookie of the Year leader Cory Turner make up the remainder of the current top 10.
STRICKLAND’S GMC CRATE SPRINT CARS
Ryan Hunsinger is inching closer to clinching the inaugural championship for the Crate Sprint Car division, with a 51 point lead over Aaron Turkey heading into this Friday’s event. Jake Brown is 15 points behind Turkey, while August 22 feature winner Josh Shantz, Mike Thorne, Tyler Hendricks, Mark Czuba, Brad Herron, Paul Lang, and Kyle Durnin hold spots in the top 10.
AFFORDABLE TOWING & RECOVERY THUNDER STOCKS
The Thunder Stock standings were close before last Friday’s race, and got even tighter afterwards, with just 7 points now separating the top 3. Dave Silverthorn, Jr. has a 4 point advantage over Wyatt Van Wart, and 7 points over defending champ Lee Winger, while Chris Dickie is also in the hunt, 23 points out of the lead. Dave Bailey, August 22 feature winner Ryan Dinning, Rookie of the Year leader Chase Hess, Bryce Richardson, Karl Sault, and Jim Lampman make up the remainder of the top 10.
HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS
Mark Bazuin cut into Tyler Lafantaisie’s Mini Stock division points lead last Friday, but Lafantaisie still has a 48 point advantage over Bazuin heading into the last 2 weeks of the season. Bazuin is 2nd in the standings and leads the Rookie of the Year chase, while Team 66 (Brandon and Jon Janssens), Team 81 (Alex Schuts and Lee Hils), Robin Elliott, Jason Lungaro, Lucas Lubin, Team 55 (Rob and Kevin Slater), Team 79 (Steve and Dan Miller), and Kathi Dickie hold top 10 spots.
GALE’S AUTO AFTERMARKET BOMBERS
Joe DeBoer took the feature win last Friday, but didn’t gain many points on Dusty DeBoer as Dusty finished 2nd in that race. Dusty leads the standings by 41 points over Joe, while Gillian Hils, Ashton Reekie, Clinton Nicholls, Gerald Burnham, Paul Longboat, Max Chechalk, Tim Nuell, and Team 1210 (Thomas Booker and Derek Dwyer) have spots in the top 10.
