The United Rebel Sprint Series will put a final cap on the 2014 season during their Awards Banquet to be held Saturday night on November 15 at the American Legion in Oberlin Ks. There will be a overall rules meeting starting at 5pm with Hot Laps (Happy Hour) to begin immediately following and dinner to be served at 7pm with the Awards presentation at 8pm and dancing to follow.
Celebrating their 9th season, the URSS had another banner year as Jake Bubak claimed his 2nd consecutive National Championship along with the Kansas Regional Championship. Bubak was the class of the field as he notched 7 feature victories through the 26 events held. A total of 16 different winners visited victory lane this season. Luke Cranston claimed 3 features while Steven Richardson and Zac Taylor each claimed two.
Drivers who each won one feature were Coby Pearce, Zach Blurton, John Jacob, Jason Martin, Mark Walinder, Mike Taylor, Coby Walters, Clint Schubert, Josh Fairbank, Jared Kern, Brian Hardman and Taylor Velasquez.
In regional action it was rookie Joey Schmidt taking top honors in the Colorado region along with the Colorado rookie of the year.
A large contingent of 13 rookies made the rookie of the year battle a very hotly contested award as Jeremy Huish earned the National Rookie of the year with Ned Werner earning the Kansas honors and Joey Schmidt taking the Colorado accolades.
URSS founder Rick Salem commented “I have never been prouder than I have been with these guys this year with the parity and the tough competition this series provides to our fans. These guys race each other hard and clean and put on some of the best sprint car racing in the nation.
