Stockton, CA – October 20, 2014…The 31st annual Tribute to Gary Patterson is set to cap the Stockton Dirt Track season in a huge way coming up on Saturday November 1, as both the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series champion and the Civil War 360 Sprint Car Series presented by Flowmaster titlist will be crowned at the 3/8 mile clay oval.

Last season’s inaugural Tribute to Gary Patterson in Stockton saw Rutherford’s Rico Abreu claim the King of the West Series finale, while San Jose’s Tim Kaeding won the non-sanctioned Winged 360 Sprint Car portion of the night.

The event saw 35 KWS 410 Sprints Cars on hand and 39 Winged 360 Sprinters in action. With the Civil War Series sanctioning the 360 portion this season it is expected to be even bigger & better and an event that fans won’t want to miss. It will be a definite historic night with the King of the West 410’s & Civil War 360’s on the same card, during the same night, for the first time ever.
Chico’s Kyle Hirst & Fremont’s Shane Golobic will look to wrap up both respective titles in Stockton. Hirst holds a 101-point lead on the King of the West side of things, while Golobic maintains a 94-point advantage with Civil War.

Known as the “Dancing Phantom from Stockton,” the “Preacher,” the “Hostile Hippie” or just simply “GP,” Gary Patterson was one of the most colorful characters of his time and captured a number of major wins in his career, including the Gold Cup Race of Champions, the Super Dirt Cup in Washington and the Turkey Night Grand Prix at Ascot Park among others.

Patterson lost his life in a Sprint Car crash at Calistoga Speedway on Memorial Day weekend 1983 and an event in his memory has been held every year since. “GP” moved to Stockton, California in 1957 and actually began his career at the Stockton 99 Speedway. This season will be the second time we’ve paid Tribute to Gary Patterson at the Stockton Dirt Track.
