Sydney, AU — (November 29, 2014) — Damian Abbott is the 2014/15 NSW State Wingless Sprint Champion.Starting off the front row for the 30 lap main event the wily veteran was often challenged on restarts but rarely legitimately threatened in his #30 Aussie Forklift Repairs entry.
The win put a bright shine on what had been an earlier disappointing night for the Aussie Forklifts team with Ashleigh Jack being taken to hospital for observation after a rollover in the B-Main.
“I’m really pleased for Leon Jack and everyone at Aussie Forklift Repairs that we could win this tonight,” he grinned, “I hope Ashleigh’s OK and I’d like to thank my team and m sponsors for supporting me, plus the series sponsors Fruitwheels and AFR. This is a really satisfying win for me.”
Abbott crossed the line to take the win ahead of Portland Victorian racer Daniel Storer in his immaculate Castrol Edge car in second and Nathan Dicker’s last gasp third place finish to displace Geoff Piekar’s podium aspirations on the final lap.
Daniel Flood rewarded the huge effort from his team to repair the car from a massive crash two weeks earlier to finish fifth ahead of Queenslander Brody Thomsen sixth, Jason Bates seventh, Daniel Sayre eighth, Mikaela Blyton ninth and Jeff Thomas rounding out the top ten.
Mark Blyton charged hard but was unable to finish any higher than eleventh ahead of Adam Hourigan twelfth, Sam Louttit thirteenth, Sean Dicker fourteenth, Stephen Allen fifteenth, Jeff Neve sixteenth, Michael Gray seventeenth, Marshall Blyton eighteenth, Jason Davis nineteenth and Steve Pacchiarotta rounding out the 20 as the last classified finisher.
DNF classifications were John McRae, Adam Butler, Lou Pacchiarotta and Dean Thomas.
The next event at Valvoline Raceway is scheduled for this Saturday night, December 6 and will feature the 6th round of the Sydney Sprintcar Track Championship and the Carline Mufflers Speedcar Pro Series featuring drivers in both categories from all over Australia.
