Brisbane Easter Trail event rained out

From Archerfield Speedway

Brisbane, AU — (April 4, 2015) — For the second time in as many attempts to complete a Sprintcar show at Ausdeck Patios Archerfield Speedway, rain has intervened to force the abandonment of the opening round of the East Coast Logistics Crispy Memorial Series tonight (April 4). Despite the best efforts of promoter John Kelly to restore the track surface following an early shower during time trials, further rain and the inevitability of heavier falls to follow resulted in a premature end to proceedings before the opening round of heats could be completed.

Prior to the rain, Robbie Farr looked on track to score KRE Race Engines Quick Time when he stopped the clock at 11.810 seconds. However, with the weather preventing the final group from taking their run against the clock, time trials were forsaken and drivers were seeded into heats with starting positions inverted for the second round of preliminaries. Whilst some drivers showed considerable disdain for the race fans by heading home early, the vast majority of the 40-car field hung around in an effort to complete the show.

In between rain periods, heat wins went to Steve Caunt, Ben Hilder and Brent Kratzmann. On a very fast and narrow race track, the only incident came in heat three when Richard Morgan somehow found himself upside down before the field had even made it through turn four to take the green flag. Farr found himself caught up in the melee and had to execute a tyre change before eventually finishing in second spot. With the field circulating in preparation for the start of heat four, another light shower sent the cars scurrying back to the pits for the final time.

In other events completed, Gary Thorne and Jayden Peacock scored impressive heat wins in Wingless Sprints, while Steve Johnson romped home in the 360 Sprintcars. Although Peter Campbell proved too strong in the Lightning Sprint heat, the Kiwi trio of Tom Lumsden, Jimmy Doyle and Ben Gilmore were very impressive in difficult conditions.

Wins in the Ford v Holden v Sigma sedans were shared between Ronnie Young and Bernie Wright.

On presentation of tickets/armbands from this show, race fans will secure a 50% discount off their admission at any one of the next four events.
