Tulsa, OK — (April 15, 2015) — If the lineup of talent that will follow the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real in 2015 wasn’t tough enough, you can add the 2000 National Tour Champion to that list as Oklahoma City’s Wayne Johnson has confirmed he will once again try for the season ending $60,000 champion’s check.
“We lost one of our sponsors, and right now it makes sense for me to run with ASCS. We’re still going to run a lot of 410cid shows when we’re not running ASCS, but right now for our budget we’re going to run the full ASCS National Tour,” explained Johnson. “There are good drivers with ASCS and for the most part, we’re all on the same playing field in terms of budget.”
Taking on the National Tour last in 2012, Johnson traded the points lead five times with Jason Johnson before ending his season runner-up.
Fresh off his first win of the season against the NSL at 34-Raceway in West. Burlington, Iowa, Johnson will pick up with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real this Saturday, April 18 at the Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Mo.
Wayne is currently 10th in National Tour standings.
With wins in 14 states with the Lucas Oil ASCS, Johnson has made the cut in 365 A-Features, putting the Oklahoma City native fourth in overall feature starts against the National Tour.
Overall, Johnson has 43 Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour A-Feature victories, with his most recent coming in a sweep of the Fall Brawl III at Nebraska’s I-80 Speedway. The win was worth $61,150 and is the biggest payday of Johnson’s career. It is also the largest payday in the history of the American Sprint Car Series. Wayne has also recorded 186 top-fives’, and 272 top-tens’.
