Finishing second during his most recent start two weeks ago, Andy Gregg and his Russell Motorsports team were one spot better on Saturday night, as Gregg was great on an extremely slicked off Placerville Speedway as he picked up his first win of the season.
“This team has been working hard all year long, and it is great to finally get a win for everyone involved,” Andy Gregg said. “We have some great partners aligned with us, and this win is for them as much as it is for us.”
From his front row starting position, Gregg would hook up in an early battle with track rival, Greg DeCaires, as the duo battle for the lead on what was an extremely slick Placerville Speedway surface.
Breaking away from DeCaires, Gregg would begin to open us his lead aboard the Capitol Ace Hardware/Thompson’s Toyota/New Gen Landscape Management No. 14r machine, only to see the caution flag fly on the seventh lap, and bunch the field back up.
The next six-lap green flag run saw Gregg again get the jump he needed as he pulled away from the field, and hit his marks as he tip-toes around the track only to see the caution fly on lap 13.
Again getting a very strong restart, Gregg would open up another comfortable lead as he got into thick lapped traffic on the 17th lap. Cautiously working his way through traffic, Gregg was able to keep DeCaires at bay as he picked up his first win of the season, giving him 20 over the duration of his career.
“With the way the track was I just had to be cautious and not make any mistakes,” Gregg added. “The guys gave me a great car, and I am happy with the way things played out, and happy to get the monkey off of our back.”
Gregg got his night started off by timing the Nail It Roofing/Carroll Russell Bookkeeping/Arnold’s For Awards backed entry in fourth fastest, before finishing second in his heat race.
Andy and the Russell Motorsports team would like to thank Capitol Ace Hardware, Thompson’s Toyota, New Gen Landscape Management, Nail It Roofing, Carroll Russell Bookkeeping, Arnold’s For Awards, Goodwin Trucking, Farrell Design-Build Inc., HJS Consulting, Poor’s Equipment Repair, CTL Forrest Management, K&T Fab, K&N Products, FK Rod Ends, King Racing Products, A.R.T. Speed Equipment, GUTS, Amsoil, Wilwood, Amerikote, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Factory Kahne Shocks, Hinchman Indy, and Hansen Machine for their support in 2015.
