From Port Royal Speedway
Port Royal, PA — (July 11, 2015) — Lucas Wolfe made a thrilling last lap, last corner pass to pick up the 410 sprint car victory at Port Royal Speedway on Saturday Night, becoming the third and final leader in the exciting and suspenseful race to record his second win of the year at the track.
Danville’s Jeff Rine annihilated the super late model championship field in the 25-lap affair, winning by nearly 12 seconds for his 12th career victory at the oval.
And in the 18-lap econo late model main, local driver Devin Hart led flag to flag to record his first ever Port Royal win in the division.
Logan Wagner had the pole for the 25-lap sprint car main and fought off Brock Zearfoss in the opening laps to begin streaking away from the field on the extreme high side of the speedway.
But fourth starter and three time winner Steve Buckwalter had his own designs on the lead and he blistered by Zearfoss for second on the third lap only to see Zearfoss fight back on lap four.
Wagner entered the backmarkers on the fifth tour with Buckwalter in tow but Wagner did fine with his high wire act in the lead until he came upon the backmarker of Curt Stroup who was directly ahead with 10 laps to go.
Wagner struggled to put Stroup a lap down and that gave Buckwalter the chances he needed to make stabs at the lead with shots to the inside before he made a move work with nine laps to go.
Wagner tried to fight back but Buckwalter was stronger and appeared as if he was headed to his fourth oval win of the year but third starter Lucas Wolfe, who faded early, was on the move.
Wolfe got by Wagner with just two laps to go using the inside of the second corner for drives that cut into Buckwalter’s lead.
And on the final circuit, he used the groove to pull up on Buckwalter’s rear bumper as the pair traversed the backchute, headed for the third corner.
And with a textbook move, Wolfe jabbed the Zemco No. 1 machine deep into the third corner before sliding up in front of Buckwalter to steal the victory as the pair raced back to the checkered flag.
Wolfe’s margin was just .282 seconds over Buckwalter with Wagner third followed by Brent Marks and Zearfoss.
Sixth through 10th went to Dylan Cisney, Mike Wagner, Dave Ely, Rick Lafferty and Mike Erdley.
Heats went to Buckwalter, Zearfoss and Marks.
Trent Brenneman took the lead at the start of the super late model championship race after an initial start frontstretch melee.
Some 12 cars were involved in the crash started when the rear of the field checked up as two cars at the front made contact.
With the field rearranged for another start, Brenneman took control over Tim Smith Jr. with both Dan Stone and Jeff Rine starting eighth and ninth, respectively.
Stone made his presence known during the first several laps with Rine following him through to the front.
Stone drove around Andy Haus for third on the sixth tour but a yellow flag a lap later slowed the pace.
Rine lined up fourth for the restart and when green reappeared instead of Stone pressuring for second, Rine bolted to his inside as the pair raced into the first corner to take over third.
After getting the third spot, Rine motored by Tim Smith Jr. for second before another yellow with nine laps down placed Rine directly on Brenneman’s rear deck.
The restart was “all she wrote” for Brenneman as Rine’s advances were simply unequalled.
Once at the helm, Rine just poured on the speed to drive to an 11.717 second win over Stone, who took second with two laps to go.
At the finish, Rine’s advantage found him in the middle of the first and second corners while the second place car of Stone was entering the third corner.
Brenneman rode home third followed by Smith and Andy Haus.
Sixth through 10th went to Mike Lupfer, Brett Schadel, Patrick Bryner, Nick Dickson and Hayes Mattern.
Heats went to Lupfer, Rine and Smith.
Devin Hart led all 18 laps of the econo late model feature to take the win over Troy Miller.
Miller took over second when Dillan Stake dropped out of the spot on the seventh tour.
Hart’s margin of victory was 3.272 seconds.
Andrew Yoder was third followed by Eric Irvin and Tim Fedder.
Heats went to Miller and Yoder.
