BRANDON, S.D. (Sept. 14, 2015) – Danny Lasoski led Big Game Motorsports to another accomplishment last weekend as the Muddy backed team officially secured the inaugural FVP National Sprint League championship.
Lasoski, who leads the series in wins, top fives and top 10s, owns an 893-point advantage with only two races remaining following another stout weekend.
“I’m very proud of our team,” he said. “We set a goal to try to win both championships (at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, and the NSL title) and the Knoxville Nationals. We’ve won both of those, but came up a little short in the Knoxville Nationals. Two out of three isn’t bad.”
Lasoski kicked off last weekend on Friday at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., for the Nebraska Cup with the FVP National Sprint League. He qualified 10 th quickest on a track that remained heavy throughout the night. Lasoski then finished second in a heat race before ending with a ninth-place result in the main event.
The Muddy sponsored team ventured to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., on Saturday for the Jerry Richert Memorial. Lasoski timed in third quickest during qualifying before he charged from sixth to second place in a heat race, which locked him into the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 5 during the random draw to start the main event on the inside of the third row.
“We have got our qualifying and heat race setup pretty spot on,” he said. “When the race track has grip on it we’re great, but right now we’re fighting to get our car stuck when the track slicks off. Usually when it gets slick that’s where we shine, but for whatever reason it’s been a struggle recently.”
Lasoski battled for a top five throughout the main event before posting a sixth-place result, which was good enough to wrap up the FVP National Sprint League title.
The weekend concluded on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway, where Lasoski qualified third quickest and maneuvered from fifth to fourth place in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the front row for the main event.
“As soon as the green flag waved we struggled,” he said. “It’s a balance thing. We’re not getting the horsepower to the ground. We’re slipping and sliding. We’ve definitely got to get it figured out. Just because it’s worked at the beginning of the year doesn’t mean it will work at the end of the year. The dirt changes. Every day the sport changes. Sometimes to take a step forward you have to take a couple of steps back. Guy (Forbrook) and the rest of the team are working hard to get it figured out.”
Lasoski held on for a seventh-place result, which marked the Muddy sponsored team’s 47th top 10 of the season.
Big Game Motorsports will return to competition this Friday at Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa, for the Arnold Motor Supply Shootout and Saturday at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., for the Clash at the Creek with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.
