The place to see some quality wheel-to-wheel action this coming Sunday will be the “Spring Fling” at the Terre Haute Action Track as the Midwest Sprint Car Series makes its only 2016 visit to the half mile dirt oval that lies within the Vigo County Fairgrounds.
The event will feature some of very best traditional sprint car drivers in both Indiana and the nation. Among those expected are Brady Short, who won this race last year and is a two time MSCS points champion, including 2015. Others who are expected are four time MSCS champ Kyle Cummins, 2015 MSCS Rookie of the Year James Lyerla, this year’s point leader, Carson Short, last year’s point runner-up, and young veteran Dakota Jackson.
The winner of the “Spring Fling” will carry off $3,000 and the event will pay $300 to start. Prize money reflects an increase over last year and this should attract its share of hungry racers.
The Action Track event will be the second racer of a doubleheader weekend for the MSCS with a
Saturday night appearance at the Tri-State Speedway.
Also on the card are the UMP Modifeds, paying $700 to win. This will be the second appearance at the Action Track this year for this competitive series. NASCAR racer/commentator Kenny Wallace won the inaugural feature on April 3. The “Hermanator,” popular with fans everywhere he competes was joined by NASCAR friend Ken Schrader, who struggled a bit at the opening day feature. Schrader will be back for redemption this Sunday.
Sunday’s action is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. with hot laps. Racing should begin at 6.
