Bouncing back from a tough break at the Placerville Speedway one week ago, Willie Croft continued to show exceptional speed aboard his Willie Croft Racing No. 29 machine as he picked up his third win of the season on Friday night before finishing fifth during the 26th Annual Dave Bradway Jr Memorial.
“It was a really good weekend for us again, and I am really excited with how well we are performing right now,” Willie Croft said. “We had a really good battle for the win on Friday night, and we had another good night on Saturday with the King of the West Series.”
Checking in for the first of two nights at the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night, Croft timed his Holey Smokes BBQ/ButlerBuilt/Brow and Miller backed No. 29 machine in 11th fastest during qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Roseville, CA pilot would race his way to the win aboard his FK Rod Ends/Hinchman Indy/Kaeding Performance backed No. 29 machine, which would earn him a spot in the redraw.
Pulling the four pill, Croft would grid the field from the second row for the 25-lap prelude to the Bradway Memorial feature event. Settling into the fourth spot as the race got underway, Croft would go to work on the bottom of the speedway as he chased after Andy Forsberg, Bud Kaeding and Sean Becker.
Working his way into the third spot, Croft would get by Bud Kaeding for the second spot as the laps began to wind down. With a just six markers left in the race, Croft would use late race heroics at the Silver Dollar Speedway for the second time in 2016 as he got by Becker and went on to pick up his third win of the season.
Returning to action on Saturday night for the 26th Annual Dave Bradway, Jr Memorial, Croft kicked the night off by timing in 14th fastest in qualifying time trials.
Gridding the field from the front row of his heat race, Croft would fend off Kyle Hirst to pick up the win, which would secure him a spot in the night’s Dash.
Finishing third in the six-lap shootout, Croft would take the green flag from the second row of the 40-lap feature event. When the race came to life, Croft would again find himself in the fourth spot as he chased after Kyle Hirst who ran third in front of him.
With Justin Sanders breathing down his neck, Croft would keep him at bay in the early stages of what would be a non-stop affair. Searching all over the racy Silver Dollar Speedway, Croft and Sanders would swap positions lap after lap.
Getting away from Sanders, Croft would turn his focus back to the lead trio as they broke away from him during the first half of the race. In thick traffic Croft would again engage in a battle with Sanders as Shane Golobic would then get in the fray.
Falling back as far as seventh at times during the race, Croft would fight his way back into the fifth spot late in the race, and as the checkered flag flew Croft closed his weekend out with two Top-Five finishes.
“A non stop feature like that it can get tough to make up ground, but I thought we were pretty good,” Croft said. “The track changed a little bit and we had to move around, but I was pleased overall with how we were able to get back into the top-five after falling out of it at one time.”
Willie Croft Racing would like to thank Holey Smokes BBQ, ButlerBuilt , Brown and Miller, FK Rod Ends, Hinchman Indy, Schoenfeld, Smith Precision Products, Kaeding Performance, Dan Olson Products, Vortex Wings, Amerikote, and GUTS for their support in 2015.
2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-6, Wins-3, Top 5’s-4, Top 10’s-4.
