Loves Park, Ill., May 27— The Mid-State Equipment/ Zimbrick Chevrolet of Sun Prairie Badger Midget Racing series will return to Rockford Speedway for the first time in nearly thirty-five years as part of the The Inaugural Outlaw Clay Classic on Wednesday Night June 29.
The 69-year old ¼-mile paved oval will be turned into high-banked dirt track for two days! Nearly 200 truckloads of Illinois River bottom clay will be distributed over a base coat of decomposed deciduous chips. Wall heights on the front and back straights will be raised using concrete gravity blocks.
Wednesday Night will feature the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series and Badger Midgets. Thursday Night June 30 will see the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series headline the event, with support division to be announced.
Midget auto racing can be traced back to the track’s first season and has hosted countless events over the decades sanctioned by: AAA, AAMS, Badger, Illini, UARA, UMARA, USAC, and WOOM to name a few.
