Atlanta, GA – July 5, 2016 – Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Mississippi fires back into action after a weekend off this Saturday night with the invasion of the fastest race cars to ever touch its racing surface. The 20th Anniversary United Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters Outlaw Thunder Tour winged sprint cars headline the USCS “King of Mississippi” sprint car speed spectacular at the 1/3 mile clay oval speed plant located just Southeast of Meridian on Old Highway19 for their one and only scheduled visit of the 2016 season.
The exotic USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour winged sprint cars weight only 1300 pounds with 700+ horsepower engines. Those two elements in addition to a huge 25 square foot top wing and seventeen-inch wide specially designed Hoosier rear race tires combine to make them the fastest cars ever to compete at the 1/3 mile oval. The USCS outlaw sprint cars are expected to reach speeds near 120 miles per hour around Whynot Motorsports Park.
The event is the twenty-second race on the fifty race USCS Outlaw Thunder National championship schedule, the event will award USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour National Championship and USCS Mid-South Thunder Tour regional series championship points. The USCS Mid-South regional series competes in Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee. The USCS event is expected to draw some of the top ranked drivers in North America.

An action packed USCS presented by K&N Filters sprint car racing program will include test and tune hot laps followed by the evening’s first sprint car race, the Hoosier Tire USCS Speed Dash that showcases the top six cars from the previous USCS main event in an edge-of-your-seat six-lap shootout. The dash will be followed by a series of qualifying heat races and a Last Chance/B-Main race(s). The evening’s grand finale will be the $2500 to win 30-lap USCS sprint car A-main event.
History making 2015 United Sprint Car Series Outlaw Thunder Tour National Champion, Morgan Turpen from Cordova, Tennessee leads a strong contingent of entries expected from at least seven states for the winged sprint car portion of Saturday night’s USCS King of Mississippi sprint car shootout.
Turpen made history when she became the first woman to ever be crowned Champion of a major National touring sprint car series by capturing the USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour 2015 National Championship. Not only did she claim the National title but she also swept the series 2015 Championships by claiming the crown in both of the USCS regional series as well. She has visited the www.rockauto.com USCS Victory Lane eight times as the winner of the USCS sprint car main event. She currently leads the 2016 USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour National point standings.
Other top entries include 11-time USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour National Champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee. Gray and Derek Hagar from Marion, Arkansas who was the 2013 USCS National Champion. Gray currently is in the second position in the National title chase point standings behind Morgan Turpen. Derek Hagar leads the USCS Mid-South Thunder Tour regional series points standings ahead of another past series Champion, Marshall Skinner who is also entered and like Hagar, also from Marion, Arkansas.
Andy McEhannon who was the 2015 Riverside International Speedway Track Champion from Hernando, Mississippi is expected. The 2015 USCS Rookie of the Year Nick Snyder from Marco Island, Florida are also anticipated entries as is the current USCS Rookie of the Year, points leader, 16 year-old Brandon Taylor from Cumming, Georgia.
Additionally, on Saturday’s action-packed racing card that has nearly $25,000 in prize money up for grabs will be the I-20 Crate Late Model Challenge featuring the Nesmith Dirt Late Models plus the Nesmith Street Stocks, Open Wheel Modifieds, Factory Stocks and the front wheel drive Hot Shots.
On Saturday night the pit gate opens at 4pm with the grandstand gates opening at 5pm. The driver’s meeting is slated for 6:30pm with racing action kicking off at 7:30pm. Grandstand Admission is $20.00 for Adults. Youth from 6 to 12 years old are $10. Children 5 years and under are FREE. Adult Pit Admission is $35.00
