A very busy week of racing for Jason Solwold came to a close on Saturday night with the Burlington, WA driver putting an exclamation point to an up and down week with his third feature event win of the season.
“We had some rough luck over the last week, and it feels good to get back in victory lane,” Jason Solwold said. “I feel like we are starting to get going now, and it is a good time for us to start clicking.”
Saturday night at the Skagit Speedway, Solwold and company would return to the speedway for the first time since the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup as they took part in the Mid Season Championship at the Speedway.
Finding himself on the front row of the feature event, Solwold showed he had a very strong Scottie’s Plumbing/Pops Entertainment/Vic’s 66 backed entry as he would get into the lead early and look very strong out front.
Seeing a victory get swooped away late earlier in the week, Solwold would not be denied on this night as he would hold firm up front and pick up his third win of the 2016 season.
Solwold and company also took part in a few Western Sprint Tour Speedweek events. Tuesday night, Solwold and company stopped in at the Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, OR and had a very strong showing.
Timing the Doyle Guffie’s Rayle Auto Sales/North West Team Excavating/KarMart Motorsports machine in fourth fastest, Solwold would finish second in his heat race before picking up the Dash win and earning the right to start on the pole for the feature event.
Getting off to a great start, Solwold would jump out to the early lead as he set a torrid pace using the bottom of the speedway. A few close calls in lapped traffic would allow second running Cory Eliason to close up on him, but Solwold would keep him at bay.
Fighting brake issues in the closing laps of the feature event, Solwold would find it tough to continue to stick the bottom and would lose the race lead with two laps to go. Trying to rundown Eliason, Solwold would finish in the second spot.
Monday night, the Shaylen Raye Motorsports team would also be in action at the Cottage Grove Speedway where Solwold would time in sixth fastest in his qualifying group before running second in his heat race.
Just missing out on a Dash berth, Solwold would get off to a great start as he would work his way up into the fifth spot on an extremely slick racing surface. Having debris go through his hood, Solwold would take his machine to the work area for repairs.
With rubber down on the speedway once he restarted in the back of the pack, Solwold would turn in a valiant effort to come through the field and pick up an 11th place finish.
Solwold and company’s busy week kicked off last Friday and Saturday night at the Gray’s Harbor Raceway in Elma, WA as they raced with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Solwold would finish in the second spot and have enough points to line up in the seventh row of the feature event. Battling back and forth in a pack of cars much of the race, Solwold would finish in the 14th spot.
Saturday night would see issues plague him in heat race action, and he would find himself in the 10th starting spot of one of the twin B Mains. A slick surface would see the former Dirt Cup Champion carve his way forward and finish in the fourth spot.
Lining up shotgun on the field for the 30-lap Fred Brownfield Classic feature event, Solwold would continue to move forward as he sliced his way through a very stout field of cars.
Where ever there was open real estate, Solwold would occupy it as he would work his way through the field to finish in the seventh spot.
“It was a weird week of racing,” Solwold added. “We had some good speed, but we had some funky luck. We have been trying some things the last couple of weeks, and we are getting better and better. Thanks to everyone for all of their hard work over the last week.”
Solwold and the Shaylen Raye Motorsports team would like to thank Scottie’s Plumbing, Pops Entertainment, Vic’s 66, Doyle Guffie’s Rayle Auto Sales, North West Team Excavating, Speedmart, After Hours Painting, Triple X Race Co., Al Parker Race Engines, Wings Unlimited, Slade Shocks, Rob Graham Trucking, Wings Unlimited, Meyer Sings, Vahlco Wheels, KarMart Motorsports, and Pro Signs for their continued support.
ON TAP: Solwold and the Shaylen Raye Motorsports team will take this weekend off before returning to the Skagit Speedway on July 23rd.
