MINOT, N.D. — July 13, 2016 — Tickets are now on sale for the Gerdau Magic City Showdown presented by Fastlane Carwash, featuring the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series at Nodak Speedway in Minot, North Dakota, on Sunday, August 28. Tickets can be purchased online at https://slspromotions.ticketforce.com or by calling SLS Promotions at 815-844-2023.
Last year at Nodak Speedway, seven-time and defending series champion Donny Schatz, who was born and raised in Minot, extended his win streak with the series at his home track to four races. Schatz was one of three drivers that led over the course of the 35-lap race. Paul McMahan was the early leader, before Brad Sweet moved into the top spot on lap-18, when a flat tire forced McMahan to the work area. Sweet would lead until he suffered a cut tire on lap-32, handing the lead back to Schatz, who would stay out front for the remainder of the 35-lap race.
Joey Saldana and Daryn Pittman each have one win in their careers at Nodak Speedway. In the 10 main events contested by the World of Outlaws at Nodak Speedway, dating back to 2006, seven different drivers have been victorious. It took Schatz until his seventh start with the series at Nodak Speedway to pick up a win, in 2012, and he has been undefeated at the track since.
Battling Schatz in 2016 is a talented group of full-time competitors, including: Brad Sweet, who has six wins and is second in points, as well his Kasey Kahne teammate, Daryn Pittman, the 2013 series champion, who is third in the standings and has five victories. Shane Stewart, who drives for Larson Marks Racing, which is co-owned by NASCAR driver Kyle Larson, is currently fourth in points on the strength of five wins. David Gravel currently is fifth in points and has picked up three checkered flags.
Veteran driver Joey Saldana is sixth in points and has four wins, as he closes in on 100 career A-Feature triumphs with the series. Jason Johnson rides seventh in the standings and has one victory thus far in 2016. Jason Sides, who also has a win, is eighth in points. Logan Schuchart, who continues to chase his first-career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series win, is ninth in points. Paul McMahan rounds out the current top-10.
Jacob Allen, son of Hall of Famer Bobby Allen, is on the road again in 2016, as part of the two-car Shark Racing team. A pair of rookie contenders are following the series full-time this year, with Greg Wilson from Ohio leading the way, along with teenager Clyde Knipp from Missouri.
