Caney, Kans. (July 16, 2016) – Last season Ameri-Flex / OCRS sprint car victories came often for Robert Sellers. Six wins was enough to secure the 2015 Ameri-Flex / OCRS championship.The wins have not come as often for the defending champion this season.
But Saturday, Sellers got back on track with his second victory of the season at Caney Valley Speedway.
“It is always good to get a win,” Sellers said afterwards. “We have been in kind of a drought.”
The win allowed Sellers to move within six points of Whit Gastineau in the season standings for second place.
It only took Sellers two laps to take the lead away from early leader Casey Wills. Sellers led the next 28 laps but he had his hands full in the closing laps from Jamie Passmore who was on his rear bumper for the final lap.
“I knew Jamie (Passmore) was coming and I pushed it in a little hard on that last lap and rode it up the wall,” explained Sellers. “We barely hung on.”
Passmore took over the runner-up position from Wills on lap 25 and begin closing the gap between himself and Sellers. Off the final turn Passmore was trying to squeeze inside of Sellers but Sellers did not give leaving Passmore in second just 0.138 seconds behind.
“I had to stay up high around (turns) three and four because i had been running there and I felt like if I broke my momentum I would probably screw up,” Sellers said.
Alex Sewell climbed from eighth starting position to finish third, Wills fell to fourth after starting on the pole and Cameron Hagin was fifth.
