OHSWEKEN, Ont. — (July 25, 2016) — The revamped Northern Crate Nationals will take to the track on Monday night at Ohsweken Speedway, with NASCAR’s Kasey Kahne in competition.
The Burger Barn Northern Crate Nationals on Monday, July 25 will feature the first ever visit of the Race of Champions (RoC) Sportsman Tour Modifieds to Ohsweken, plus the Go Nuclear! Late Model series, Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars, Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars, and Affordable Towing & Recovery Thunder Stocks. The event will also include a crate engine giveaway thanks to Strickland’s GMC; Anyone in any division racing at Ohsweken with a crate engine in their car that night will be eligible for the draw.
Kasey Kahne will compete in the Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Car division on Monday, and come back on Tuesday to race in the Arrow Express Six Nations Showdown featuring the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. The 36 year old Enumclaw, Washington native has 17 NASCAR Sprint Cup series wins on his resume. Kahne’s career began on dirt tracks in the Pacific Northwest, and he has never forgotten his roots. Following success in Sprint Cars and Midgets – including a USAC National Midget series championship in 2000 – Kahne made his debut in what was then called the NASCAR Nextel Cup series in 2004. He stays involved with dirt track racing through his ownership of Kasey Kahne Racing, which fields World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car series entries for Daryn Pittman and Brad Sweet. Despite limited time away from NASCAR, Kahne is still competitive on the dirt track circuit; his most recent Sprint Car victory came at Pennsylvania’s Lincoln Speedway on March 26.
Brad Rouse of St. Catharines, Ontario leads the championship standings heading into the first ever RoC Sportsman Modified tour event at Ohsweken. Rouse will face stiff competition from local drivers such as former Ohsweken Speedway Thunder Stock champ Cody McPherson, as well as invaders such as New York’s Andrew Smith, who recently collected his 10th win of the season.
