The 2016-17 season for Peter Doukas took a turn for the better at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway, where he claimed his maiden 410 Sprintcar feature-race win in last Saturday night’s third Eureka Garages & Sheds Sprintcar Series round.

Doukas was able to recover from a tough start in the feature race, where the 22-year-old racer from Warrnambool in the south-east region of Victoria had started from position four, and worked his way towards the pointy end of the field.

After settling into third by mid race, Doukas managed to find a sweet spot in the track, which was coupled with a good setup aboard his Vic # 98 Giblin Family Homes / Warrnambool Locksmiths backed Cool car, and just after the middle stages of the race he was able to move from third to the lead within a lap.

Once out in front, Doukas was able to remain out in front, along with surviving a late restart, by maintaining his consistent race lines and went on to greet the feature race chequered flag as a winner for the very first time.

It has been a mixed start to the current season for Doukas, but although Saturday night’s win came as a surprise, he felt that he has been building towards a result like this over his three seasons of Sprintcar racing.

“To pick up my maiden feature-race win is an amazing feeling and it just goes to show that persistence can pay off,” Doukas expressed, who had earlier in the night qualified fourth in the feature race after finishing his two heat races with a win and a fifth.

“Being able to enjoy Sprintcar racing wouldn’t be at all possible without the support of my sponsors, team and family – and this win is as much theirs as it is mine.

“Now with my maiden feature-race win out of the way, the goal is to now build on this result and hopefully I can start to run consistently up the front of the field for the remainder of the season. However, my team and I have to continue to work hard both on and off the track.”

This Saturday night at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway in South Australia, Doukas is going to contest the fourth Eureka Garages & Sheds Series round.
