OHSWEKEN, Ont. – June 29, 2017 – Any fans who arrive in a classic Hot Rod will receive $10 grandstand admission for the night. Hot Rod night always brings some of the best classic cars in the area to the Speedway for an awesome collection worth stopping to check out.
Fans will also get a treat on Friday night at YouTube star Tanner Fox will be competing in the HRW Automotive Mini Stock division prior to competing and performing in the first ever ActionXpo on Saturday, July 1. The San Diego, Calif. native is a professional scooter rider and fans can see Tanner and his famous Nissan GTR during a meet and greet on Saturday during ActionXpo, the first Action Sports Exhibition in Canada. Also on the card for action Friday night are the Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars, Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks and Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers.
Race time is 7:30pm with Pit Gates scheduled to open at 5:30pm and Spectator Gates opening at 6:00pm. Admission for adults is just $14, $10 for seniors (65+), Youths (13-17) and fans arriving in Hot Rod cars, while kids age 7-12 are only $3. Children 6 and under are free.
Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars
Dylan Westbrook has held the hot hand in Sprint Car racing across the province and enters Friday night’s event as the point leader with both the Southern Ontario Sprints (SOS) and Ohsweken’s own Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak Sprint Cars. Westbrook has two wins with the SOS this season and a pair of victories at Ohsweken to his credit as well.
A talented field of drivers will be gunning to knock the Scotland, Ont. teenager from his post across the podium, including Shawn Sliter, who sits second in the Southern Ontario Sprints standings. Also chasing Westbrook is Jim Huppunen, who sits just two points back of the Kool Kids/Corr-Pak point lead.
Cory Turner, Ryan Turner and Mikey Kruchka also sit in the top-five through three weekly races this season. A total of 22 different drivers have attempted to run a Kool Kids-Corr/Pak race this season while 17 different drivers have competed with the SOS.
HRW Automotive Mini Stocks
The HRW Automotive Mini Stock drivers will have a new competitor to battle on Friday night when YouTube star Tanner Fox hits the Ohsweken clay for the first time. Two weeks ago, rookie driver Nick Masi turned heads when he became the fourth different winner in the division this season. The win last week vaulted Masi up to 10th in the title standings. Mark Bazuin is the current point leader with a seven-point buffer over Jon Janssens. Meanwhile, Brandon Crumbie, Brandon Janssens and Aaron Rewutzsky round out the top-five.
Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars
The Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Car division gets back to the Ohsweken clay after competing last Sunday at Humberstone Speedway. Dylan Westbrook stole the win last Sunday ahead of teammates Aaron Turkey and Holly Porter. When the division was last in action at Ohsweken on June 16, Mack DeMan earned the victory and became the third different winner of the season. DeMan also took over the point lead in the championship standings with a three point gap over Jesse McDonald. Ryan Hunsinger, who has a pair of wins this season, is third in the standings while Porter and Mike Thorne sit tied for fourth to round out the top-five. Josh Hansen is the top rookie driver in seventh in the standings and is coming off a third-place finish last week.
Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks
Last time the Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks were on track, Dave Bailey and Ryan Dinning produced an instant classic. Bailey got his third win of the season when he beat Dinning to the line by just 0.005 seconds. Bailey holds the point lead through three races with a 34-point cushion over Ken Sargent. Jim Lampman and Dinning occupy positions three and four, respectively, while Derek Lemyre and Trevor DeBoer are deadlocked for fifth.
Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers
The Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers have a tight points race ongoing with four different winners in as many races so far this season. Lucas Smith is the current point leader and has a victory that came on opening night. Paul Longboat sits 17 points back in second and Gillian Hils, who won two weeks ago, is third. Dustin Longboat sits fourth after four weeks and last week’s winner Alex Maas occupies fifth.
