With the Thanksgiving Holiday a little over a week away it is hard to believe that just four months ago the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions were getting ready to head West. Not only were they preparing for a series of racing events that would take them across the Great Plains, but they were also getting ready for five consecutive nights of electrifying racing action as it was time for “Thunder through the Plains.”

O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions drivers “impressive” at the World Finals

Even though the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions 2009 season is over, the drivers who finished in the top-ten in points with the series are out competing with the best in the 410 sprint car world and are letting their presence be known. Last weekend three drivers carrying the All Star Circuit of Champions banner competed at the World Finals at The Dirt Track at Lowes Motor Speedway and made the main event. Not only did one of them make the main event, but one came close to winning the final night in Charlotte.

Match Race: The All Stars vs. The Ted Johnson Support Series

During the Amoco Knoxville Nationals Ted Johnson announced that the Pennzoil World of Outlaws were going to start their own support series. No matter how anyone tries to sugar coat it, the series is going to be based on the home turf of the All Star Circuit of Champions run by Bert Emick and is rest of the All Star Board of Directors. Since both series look to be racing during the 2000 season , and it appears they will be butting heads. So I decided to weigh all of the options in the only fair way to compare the two series, with a little match race.

The alarm clock rings at 6:00 a.m. on race day morning, and the weather forecast calls for a slight chance of scattered thunderstorms. Always the optimist, I blow the report off and start upstairs to get ready to head to the track. An hour later after packing all my computer gear back up I head to the speedway.

Rains hit Sunday night at Millstream Speedway just after time trials, canceling the All Star sprint program. The event will not be rescheduled, and the All Stars return to Millstream for the Ohio Speedweek opener on June 27.

Huntley Wins All Star Feature at Crystal

Kevin Huntley ended his very long dry spell with the All Star Circuit of Champions Friday night at the Crystal Raceway by winning the GM Powertrain 40. Huntley certainly had to work hard to end his winless streak because of a race long battle with Dean Jacobs and Kelly Kinser despite running on six cylinders and the motor overheating. This was Huntley’s first All Star win in over two years.

Kenny Jacobs decimated the field in the All Star sprint 30-lap feature Saturday night at Eldora Speedway. The win for Jacobs was his second All Star win of the season, and it was his first time back racing since a back injury earlier this season.
