Mike Fedorcak became the first driver to win midget features at both the Memorial Coliseum and Exposition Center in Fort Wayne after his victory on Friday night. Fedorcak may limit his racing now to the confines of indoor arenas, but he is still a threat to win every time he straps in a car. Fedorcak uses the indoor races as motivation to keep in shape all year.

Saturday morning while most people in America will be sleeping (or out partying) the Australian version of sprint car civil war will be taking place at Parramatta City Raceway as the World Sprintcar Series takes on the strongest weekly program of sprint cars in the land Down Under.

When a person goes to races as long as I have in my short lifetime only a few weekends really stand out amongst the others. I have a feeling down the road this past Labor Day weekend will be one of those as I took in four different tracks in four nights. During those four events I saw Late Models (I’m not proud), AVSS, USAC Midgets, All Star Sprints, and 305 sprints.

Paul McMahan continued our thought that one never knows who might show up at any GLOSS event. McMahan took advantage of Kraig Kinser’s crash while Kraig was leading the feature event handily before crashing in turn three.

Joey Saldana scored the biggest win of his career on Saturday at the 19th annual Kings Royal at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. Joey is now the ninth different driver to wear the crown. Saldana’s previous best finish was a fourth place during his previous eight starts.

After only having one appearance in Michigan for the All Star Circuit of Champions, the series returned to Hartford Speedway Park for the first time in seven years in what was estimated as one of the largest, if not the largest, crowd in track history.

After starting the year with gale force winds, arctic conditions, and lots of rain mother nature finally spotted the Slideways crew a decent weekend last week when we headed out to Gas City I-69 Speedway, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and US 24 Speedway in Logansport, Indiana.

The biggest pre race news was the involvement of Joe Darmofal buying a controlling interest in the All Star Circuit of Champions. Joe has sponsored teams in the past, and was formerly the head of the Motorsports Alloys division of TW Metals. Joe has been a staunch All Star supporter and will do a great job leading the group into the future. To avoid speculation, a press release from the All Stars will be forthcoming and we will have an interview with Darmofal this weekend.

Sprints on Dirt during their 21st year returned to the site of the very first SOD event at the Crystal Motor Speedway. 28 sprint cars checked in for the third and final appearance of the Sprints on Dirt at the Crystal Motor Speedway during the 2001 season.
