avid Gravel has heard and read about the sprint car racing scene in California for as long as he can remember. He has been looking for the right opportunity to race in the Golden State for the past few years. That chance will come this week as he makes his California debut at Thunderbowl Raceway as he continues to fill-in for the injured Bill Rose in the Fire Text Response Maxim on the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series circuit.

David Gravel had never seen the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway until last Wednesday when he arrived at the half-mile for the first of two nights of racing at the state-of-the-art half-mile.

David Gravel had three main goals he wanted to accomplish to open his 2013 racing season.

After a very solid season last year that saw him pick up one win and set fast time on 12 different occasions, David Gravel has been counting the days until the 2013 season opener.

David Gravel has really put his name on the sprint car racing map over the last few years, including scoring his first career World of Outlaws win in 2011, as well as claiming the Ohio Sprint Speedweek title in 2010

There’s been a common theme every time David Gravel has hit the track with the World of Outlaws in 2012, and that is that he is a threat to set quick time aboard the No. 89G.

What began for David Gravel in February down in Georgia and encompassed over 70 races at 34 tracks in 14 states and one Canadian province, will culminate this week, as he adds one more track to the list of venues he has competed at in 2012, with a trip to The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C.

David Gravel has had a very consistent and solid season with the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champion this year, sitting near the top of the leaderboard in a number of categories with the series, and he has one more chance to add to his stats this weekend. He looks to wrap up the All Stars 2012 campaign on a high note as the series heads to the famed Eldora Speedway in Ohio.

David Gravel has made a limited number of starts with the World of Outlaws this season, but he has certainly made the most of his opportunities to race against the best sprint car drivers in the world. After challenging for a win with the series earlier this season at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in New York, only to have a small part break while running second, he returned to the sprawling five-eighths-mile on Saturday, Oct. 6, and came away with a very strong fifth-place finish.

Eight laps and a tiny part that cost a couple of dollars. That’s all that separated David Gravel from a potential career-best finish and possibly a win at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park with the World of Outlaws back in May

Being from the East Coast, David Gravel knows the history and tradition of the National Open at Williams Grove Speedway very well. Long known as the biggest sprint car race on the Eastern edge of the country, the event dates back 50 years.
