After a month’s break on the sidelines to allow for the annual International Sprintcar Series, Performance Wholesale World Series Sprintcars and Titan Garages Australian Sprintcar Open events, the 2009/10 Qld Speedway Spares Series resumes this Saturday night January 23 with Round 6 of the Series the main event on the program at Archerfield.
While Brisbane Sprintcar fans have been thoroughly spoilt during the past month with names like Schatz, Kaeding, Hockett, Tatnell, Dumesny and Farr on the card, this weekend’s event brings together a host of Qld’s leading drivers as they resume the season long chase for the Qld Speedway Spares Series title.
Pete Thorley heads the QSSS points table after five of the twelve Rounds and has an opportunity to further extend that lead this weekend. Thorley, the 2008 Qld Sprintcar Champion and a regular in the top five in Series points through the last four seasons, is chasing his first Series title for the ABC Auto Gear Racing team and leads Peter Lack by a bare ten points as the Series hits the halfway mark. Thorley and his ABC team mate Todd Wanless will start as two of the favourites for Saturday night’s twenty-five lap Feature along with Lack, Darrell Hodges, Allan Woods, Richard Morgan and Steven White.
Our country celebrates its national day next Tuesday but it’s going to be an early Australia Day party when Ausdeck Patios And Roofing presents a huge Fireworks show for the kids plus a Crazy Car, Caravan, Boat And Dunny Race to close out the program. That’s right, it’s not just cars and caravans this Saturday night but boats and dunnies as well, a fitting tribute to our larrikin way of life!
Plus there’s ASCF Junior Sedans with newly crowned Australian Champion Cody Maroske chasing back to back BIS Feature race wins, and support class racing from the Club Sedans, Ford vs Holden Sedans and Stock Cars. Early racing from 5:00pm, main program from 6:00pm.
