World of Outlaws Championship Standings Tighten After Ironman 55 Weekend

By Tony Veneziano

Concord, NC—August 8, 2010— The World of Outlaws championship standings remain extremely close following the Ironman 55 Weekend at I-55 Raceway, which culminated on Saturday night with the Second Annual Ironman 55, the longest, most grueling event of the season for the World of Outlaws. Joey Saldana, Steve Kinser and Jason Meyers are separated by just 46 points, with Saldana leading Kinser by a mere nine markers with Meyers third, only 37 points behind Kinser who is second and 46 behind Saldana.

Saldana charged from 19th to seventh in the opener of the Ironman and was fifth in the finale to earn his 29th Top-Five finish of the season. He continues to lead the series in wins with 10 and is also on top of the leader board in laps led as he battles for his first World of Outlaws title.

Kinser finished fourth on Friday night and sixth on Saturday night to add to his series leading total of Top-Five and Top-10 finishes. The 20-time series champion has 44 Top-10 runs with 31 of those being Top-Five performances as he seeks his record 21st title.

Meyers finished sixth in the opener at I-55 Raceway and led 27 laps en route to the $20,000 win in the finale, which was his eighth win of the season, which is second only to Saldana. The California native has 38 Top-10 finishes on the year with 25 Top-Fives as he chases his first series title.

Donny Schatz finished fifth on Friday night and seventh on Saturday at I-55 Raceway and remains fourth in points. The four-time and defending series champion is currently 165 markers out of the top spot.

Jason Sides used a third-place finish in the opener of the Ironman Weekend and a 10th-place run in the finale to remain fifth in points. The native of Bartlett, Tennessee has 37 Top-10 finishes on the season with 18 Top-Fives.

Paul McMahan picked up two more Top-10 finishes at I-55 Raceway over the weekend to remain sixth in points. The veteran has 34 Top-10 finishes on the season as he continues to fill in for the injured Cody Darrah in the No. 91 for Kasey Kahne Racing.

Lucas Wolfe used a runner-up finish in the finale of the Ironman 55 to earn his 25th Top-10 of the season as he remains a very solid seventh in points.

Craig Dollansky finished second on Friday night to pick up his 15th Top-Five finish of the season and remains eighth in points.

Kraig Kinser picked up his seventh Top-Five finish of the season on Saturday night coming home fourth at I-55 Raceway and is currently ninth in points.

Danny Lasoski, who finished 10th in the opener of the Ironman 55, rounds out the Top-10 in points on the strength of 23 Top-10 finishes.

The World of Outlaws return to action on Friday, August 20 and Saturday, August 21 with the Magic City Showdown at Nodak Speedway in Minot, North Dakota, to kick off the 2010 Gold Rush Tour.
