Sydney, AU — (February 18, 2012) — Garry Brazier has scored a spectacular win in round 13 of the Sydney Sprintcar Track Championship at Tyrepower Sydney Speedway. Brazier – who debuted under the Rocket Industries livery – passed race leader Steve Caunt on lap thirteen and from that point on, held onto the lead and despite numerous challenges, took a commanding victory in the end.

“This is the best racing at the best Sprintcar track in Australia,” said a very happy Brazier.

Second to the chequered flag was Ian Loudoun who is forming a habit of finishing second in A-Main’s this summer. At one stage, Loudoun passed Brazier but the yellow light came on for Darryl Campbell who spun in turn four. This put Loudoun back to second place and despite closing in heavy lapped traffic, had to settle for second place.

Third placed Mitchell Dumesny was one of the highlights of the feature race. “The racing between Mitchell and fourth placed Ben Atkinson was unreal over the last 13 laps,” said commentator Stu McCarthy.

“The slide jobs had to be seen to be believed,” added McCarthy.

As mentioned, Atkinson who was back in the Pick ‘N Payless N2 – who was the top qualifier after the heats – machine looked very comfortable as he battled Dumesny, ultimately finishing fourth.

Fifth to the line was Kelly Linigen who was making her season debut driving for Antony Jeffrey. She also had a great battle with Roddy Bellbowen who scored sixth place over Warren Ferguson from James Thompson, Matt Young and Grant Tunks who rounded out the top ten.

Earlier heat race action saw Ben Atkinson, Darryl Campbell, Roddy Bellbowen and Steve Caunt win the heats in the opening round with Atkinson doubling up in heat five. The remaining heat wins went to Matt Reed, Kelly Linigen and Mitchell Dumesny.

The Speedcar A-Main was won by Mark Brown over Matt Smith and Ian Black. Several cars were taken out in a huge crash in the second heat, including Dave Lambert and Richard Malouf. All drivers were okay.

The AMCA Nationals main event was won by Laurence Chant from Robert Chant and Terry Pankhurst.

The Late Model A-Main was claimed by Darryl Grimson from Ross Nicastri and Bruce White.

The next meeting on the Sydney Speedway calendar is next Saturday night, February 25 when Mrs Macs presents the Sprintcar Stampede. Also on the program are Wingless Sprints, Litre Sprints and Fender Benders.
