California, MO — (June 9, 2013) — In a race that saw four different leaders, Chris Parkinson led when it mattered most as he picked up his first career Wingless Auto Racing win on Sunday night at Double X Speedway.

Brad Ryun led the first two laps as he was chased by Chad Goff and Taylor Walton.  On lap three, Ryun slipped over the bank in turn one and Goff took over the lead as he was followed by Walton and Shields.

With five laps in the books, the race’s first yellow came out for a PJ Grimes spin in turn two.

On the restart, Goff would continue to lead as he chased by Walton and Shields, who had a nice battle going for second over the next few laps.  By lap nine, Cody Baker joined in the fun as only a few car lengths separated the first four.  Shields, using the high line, would go by Walton for second and a lap later, he would get by Goff to take the lead.  Shields would continue to get pressure from Goff and Baker with Walton not far behind the top three.  Baker’s shot at a win would come to a stop on lap eleven as he brought out the yellow flag with a flat right rear tire.

On the restart, Shields would continue to lead as Chris Morgan, who was running fifth at the time, went over the turn one bank costing him a handful of positions.

At this point, Shields led with Walton moving up to second and Chad Tye moving into third.
By lap thirteen, it was Shields and Walton with Parkinson moving into the top three.  The top three would stay this way until lap seventeen when Walton worked by Shields on the bottom for the top spot.

The race’s final yellow would come out on lap eighteen as Austin Alumbaugh  came to a stop over the turn one bank as Ryun was also involved.  Alumbaugh would be towed to the pits and Ryun would continue from the rear.

Walton again set the pace as the race went green.  Parkinson would work his way past Shields on lap eighteen.

With twenty two laps in the books, Parkinson was able to work his way past Walton as Shields began to feel heavy pressure from Ryun, who had worked his way back up from the tail.

Parkinson would go on to his first career WAR win in his CMP Airworks/54th Street Grill and Bar DRC with Parkinson power.  Walton was second in his John Hillman owned Gambler with Hillman power.   Shields was a solid third in his JJ Yeley Racing sponsored Twister with Carbone power.  Ryun was fourth in his Ryun Bros. Pool and Spa JEI with a Ryun Racing Engine.  Morgan, in his first start since a serious crash last season, was fifth in the Midwest Flooring MRP with Ostrich power.  John Helm was sixth with Mitchell Moore coming home seventh.  Tye was eighth with Nathan Ryun and PJ Grimes rounding out the top ten.

Point leader Josh Stephens had a tough night as he took a bad tumble in hot laps ending his evening.    Because of his misfortune, Stephens was presented the Engine Connection Hard Luck Award . The Schure Built Suspensions Quick Time Award was won by Mitchell Moore.  The Steve Watt Enterprises heat race winner was Cody Baker and the Rod End Supply heat race winner was Chris Morgan.
