GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (Nov. 19, 2013) – As much as baseball is about inches, racing is about tenths of a second.

Big Game Motorsports driver Sammy Swindell can attest to that as he was hampered by less than one second in multiple races spanning the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series schedule across the country.

“I think all you have to do is look at our starting positions and our qualifying positions,” he said. “We weren’t really off on the qualifying that much. It always seemed to put us on the sixth or seventh row (in the feature). It seemed like most of our year we were coming from the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh row. We qualified third through eighth a lot and it just puts you in the wrong spot. It’s just been harder to pass this year.”

Swindell and his Big Game Treestands team overcame the odds in several events, capturing five feature victories – three with the World of Outlaws.

Swindell garnered his first win on March 29 at Merced Speedway in Merced, Calif., before returning to Victory Lane on June 30 at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis.

“I think the one at Cedar Lake was pretty good because we started back a few rows and we were able to pass some guys and be in the right place and do the right things,” he said.

Swindell’s final win with the World of Outlaws was on Aug. 30 at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash. He then returned to the winner’s circle with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour during the 26th annual Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., on Oct. 24 and Oct. 26.

“After some of the stuff we struggled with in the year, to go there to Short Track Nationals and have everything fall in place for us was great,” he said. “That format there you have to have a little bit of luck and we had that, but we definitely had a good car.”

Swindell, who ended sixth in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series championship standings, said his Big Game Treestands team will have a similar plan for next year as the past couple of seasons. The team will start in Florida with the World of Outlaws and follow the premier sprint car series for a while before evaluating how the season is going.

“There’s no reason for us not to have a good year,” he said. “I know what we’ve done with the motors is definitely better and I know that our cars are better.”

SEASON STATS –

80 races, 5 wins, 18 top fives, 44 top 10s, 61 top 15s, 68 top 20s
