Perris, CA — (November 26, 2013) — Andrew Felker has big plans for this Thanksgiving.
Felker will return to Perris Auto Speedway for the 73rd annual Turkey Night Grand Prix on Thursday, when the Honda USAC National Dirt Midget Series will wrap up its season on the half-mile oval.
This marks Felker’s second trip to the event and first year in his race car.
“Last year the biggest thing was getting used to the track,” he said. “It was getting more familiar with it more than anything. Last year was finding comfort in the car.”
Felker was unable to advance to the main event last year after engine issues forced him pitside during a nonqualifier race. With that experience and in the familiarity of his own midget, Felker said he is excited for this challenge.
“Now being in my own stuff should be good,” he said. “The biggest thing is putting it in the show; surviving the first half of the race and not getting a lap down. I think if we can keep our nose clean and go in the right direction, I think we can have a top 10.”
The feature is 98 laps, which is nearly double the most laps Felker has competed in during a single race this season.
“It makes for a long race in a midget,” he said. “You have to save your stuff and then go for it the last 30 laps.”
