Salina, OK — (July 19, 2014) — After Friday night’s race at Humboldt Speedway Alex DeCamp was undecided if he would race in Saturday’s OCRS AmeriFlex Hose and Accessories show at Salina Highbanks Speedway.

DeCamp, who finished 15th, had repairs that needed to be made not to mention the lack of a wing for his sprinter.

“We were undecided about coming out,” DeCamp said. We had some thrashing to do to get the car ready and we had to borrow a wing. But it all paid off. I am glad we came out.”

DeCamp, who started outside second row in the main event in his Klint Pursley Trucking / Morton Excavating / STK Racing Engines / Eagle, surprised leader Johnny Kent on the final lap to become the seasons first three-time winner.

“He had it in the bag,” said DeCamp of his hopes of catching Kent. “I did not think we had a chance. I don’t think I would have got him if that lapped car had stayed up there.

“I had a plan if I got a good start and I did. I was going to go to the bottom and cover the break and I did. I knew he was going to come back with a slide job and he cleared me then I got a run on him down the front stretch and I went to the bottom again. I had to block to get the win.”

Blake Edwards led the first nine laps before Kent took command. Kent remained out front and opened up a lead until DeCamp got free. The two ran wheel-to-wheel at the white flag but DeCamp made his move on the final lap around the 3/8’s mile high banked oval leaving Kent with a runner-up finish for the second straight night.

“I thought we were good to go,” said Kent of his chances at a win. “(Blake) Edwards slid me a couple of times and left me plenty of room. I was committed to the high side and that is all there was to it.”

It was another heartbreaking loss for Kent.

“There was a nice cushion and it was a racy track tonight,” said Kent. “Kudos to the guys at Salina.

“I generally don’t get around this place very well. This is the first top five I have had here.”

Kent feels he is on the verge of getting that victory.

“A win is right around the corner,” he said. “We will get our stuff together. We just got beat by a little better car.”

Edwards held on to finish third. Whit Gastineau was fourth and Glen Passmore rounded out the top five.
