Tucson, AZ -As much of the nation goes into hibernation in anticipation for the cold weather, the tension continues to build as the kickoff of The 42nd Annual KRONIK Energy Western World Championships Presented by Old Tucson Studios is just a week away.
With more than 100 entries from 18 states as well as Canada already filed for the event set for November 19th-21st at Tucson’s USA Raceway, The qualifying nights have been determined.
The stellar field, including five former Western World champions and numerous track and series champions from throughout the country, has been split into two nights. The Lucas Oil National ASCS Sprint Car contenders and the Discount Tire ASCS wingless warriors will be split with half of each field running on Thursday night and the other half on Friday night. The top eight national finishers from each night’s main events will be locked into Saturday night’s $15k to win championship feature while the top seven from each night’s Discount Tire Canyon Region feature’s will make up the first seven rows of the $5k to win wingless championship feature. The balance of Saturday’s feature lineups will be determined by qualifying night finishing positions.

Thursday November 19th – Old Tucson Studios Qualifying Night
Thursday kicks off the week in grand style as Lucas Oil ASCS National Point leader Shane Stewart and Discount Tire Canyon Region point leader “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. take to the track. Stewart will be in tough competition with 2 time Western World Champion Sammy Swindell, 2009 Knoxville Champion Johnny Herrera and the versatile Jesse Hockett among the Lucas Oil ASCS National qualifiers.
Davis will head up the wingless qualifiers with some heavy hitters that include 2007 Western World Champion and Tucson native Jerry Coons Jr., Indiana’s Jon Stanbrough and Discount Tire Challenge winner Rick Ziehl.

Friday November 20th – Kronik Energy Qualifying Night
Friday night Jason Johnson, defending ASCS National Champion, will try to make up ground on Stewart as he quests to win back to back championships. With only 24 points separating the two drivers, Johnson will have tough work ahead as he takes on Danny Lasoski, Joey Saldana, Southwest Region point leader Rick Ziehl and Northwest Region Champion Roger Crockett.
Jesse “The Rocket” Hockett will join Hollywood Herrera, Dustin Morgan, Ronnie Clark and Brady Bacoade in the wings to take on Dave Darland and former Western World Champion Jeremy Sherman.

Where: USA Raceway -3/8-mile clay oval in Tucson, Arizona
When: Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 19-21, 2009. $15,000 to win the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Cars Series (Wing)/$5,000 to win the Discount Tire ASCS Sprint Cars (Non Wing) Finale on November 21st. Race time is 7pm each day with gates opening at 3pm. Test ‘N Tune session on Wednesday November 18th from 6-9pm.
Parking: RV parking will be available Tuesday November 17th. Pit Parking will begin Wednesday November 18th at 8am.

The Brodix ASCS Awards Banquet: The 18th Annual American Sprint Car Series Awards Banquet, Presented by Brodix, will follow directly on the heels of USA Raceway’s 42nd Annual KRONIK Energy Western World Championships presented by Old Tucson Studios.
